China recruits retired teachers

GD&TĐ - The Chinese government will recruit 7,000 retired teachers for rural schools this year, according to a joint statement by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.

This is part of a plan to improve the quality of education in rural areas, where there are still many gaps compared to urban areas in terms of teachers, facilities and learning opportunities. According to the plan, teachers invited back to teach include principals, teaching researchers and experienced teachers under 65 years old.

They will be assigned to work in district, town and village schools, especially in formerly poor areas, underdeveloped ethnic minority districts, border areas and places with shortages of education human resources. The government expects them to not only impart knowledge to students, but also support training and professional development for young local teachers.
