According to statistics from the Vietnam Customs Department, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports in March 2025 reached 477.4 million USD, up 52.1% compared to February 2025 and up 2% compared to March 2024. In the first 3 months of 2025, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports reached 1.164 billion USD, down 9.2% compared to the same period in 2024.
In March and the first 3 months of 2025, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports decreased mainly due to a sharp decrease in fruit and vegetable exports to China, while exports to many other major markets increased. In March 2025, the export value of Vietnam's fruit and vegetable products to China reached 215.7 million USD, down 16.4% compared to March 2024. In the first 3 months of 2025, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports to China reached 521.2 million USD, down 31.3% compared to the same period in 2024.
In the first quarter of 2025, the export value of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables to China decreased sharply due to the impact of durian exports on regulations in this market. However, after a period of interruption due to new inspection regulations, durian exports to China have gradually stabilized.
The US was Vietnam's second largest fruit and vegetable export market in March 2025, reaching 46.1 million USD, up 33.8% over the previous month and up 64.8% over March 2024. In the first 3 months of 2025, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports to the US reached 111.6 million USD, up 65% over the same period in 2024, accounting for 9.6% of Vietnam's total fruit and vegetable export turnover.
Notably, among the 15 largest export markets, fruit and vegetable exports increased the most to the Hong Kong market (China), with an increase of 105.1% over the same period in 2024, reaching 15.4 million USD; followed by exports to the UK market with an increase of 73.3%, reaching 12.7 million USD.
In addition, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports in the first 3 months of 2025 to some major markets grew positively such as Japan, Australia, UAE, Taiwan, etc. Meanwhile, fruit and vegetable exports to markets such as Thailand and the Netherlands decreased.
In the first 3 months of 2025, although export turnover decreased, China is still Vietnam's largest fruit and vegetable export market, but focusing too much on this market has limited the ability to exploit other opportunities. Vietnam has currently signed and is negotiating up to 19 free trade agreements (FTAs), including very potential markets such as the EU, the US, and Japan. To penetrate deeper into demanding markets such as the EU, the US, and Japan, the application of modern technology and compliance with international standards will be important factors for the success of Vietnamese agricultural products.
