Pressure from a famous artistic family
Born in 1983 in Hanoi, Ta Duy Tuan has artistic blood in his family. His grandfather is Meritorious Teacher Ta Tan (real name Ta Duy Thai) - one of the founders of the Vietnam Music School (now the National Academy of Music). His father is guitarist Ta Tien, and his mother is a singer and vocal instructor working at the General Political Department's Art Troupe (now the Army Music and Dance Theater).
"The shadows of my grandfather, father, mother, and family traditions are so great that I have to overcome them to assert myself at the present time," he confided in the Confession program.

Immersed in music through his grandfather's and father's guitars and his mother's singing since he was 4 years old, Duy Tuan soon embarked on a rigorous path of classical guitar playing. Every day, he sat for 4-5 hours holding the guitar in a strict, formal posture. "Sometimes my hands hurt so much, I was so tired, I was so bored that I wanted to quit and go out," he said.
His grandfather not only inspired him with music but was also the first teacher in the professional music industry in Vietnam, instilling in Duy Tuan a love for the profession and a seriousness with each note. The male musician grew up surrounded by the sound of instruments, singing, and an artistic atmosphere that was as present as breathing.
From "hot boy" in college to the path of writing
At the age of 15-16, Ta Duy Tuan started composing as a hot boy playing guitar and performing at universities. At a time when there was no email or smartphones, he received "a lot of handwritten letters" from fans.
The first songs about first love and school were written from instinct and the most genuine emotions, but they were not always well received. Instead of being discouraged, he switched from writing instinctively to researching. The following songs were invited to perform at schools, which was a source of pride for the young man.

The real turning point came when Duy Tuan joined the army after graduating from the Hanoi College of Arts, the Military University of Culture and Arts, and then continued studying Composition - Theory - Conducting at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Growing up in the cradle of the army, with the responsibility of a Party member, political topics began to take center stage in his compositions.
When rap "burns" with ideals
Duy Tuan "heats up" political music with bold modern elements. The song " Co Dang sang minh buon ta dich" (With the Party's light, our steps are steady) has both rap and beatbox - something that makes some people hesitant. But when the work was performed by artists, thousands of soldiers in the units shouted in unison "Co Dang sang minh buon ta dich" (With the Party's light, our steps are steady) with pride.

Ta Duy Tuan currently works at the Army Music and Dance Theater with three roles: composer, arranger and music producer. He pursues a contemporary folk style - combining national identity with modern musical techniques, using traditional instruments combined with R&B, rap, beatbox, and EDM.
"Music about soldiers needs to win over audiences with beautiful melodies, meaningful lyrics and modern arrangements. It is necessary to create catchy melodies that are in line with new music trends, while at the same time polishing the lyrics to be rich in imagery, poetic, and close to life," he shared in an interview.
Achievements and future vision
With nearly 100 composed songs, Ta Duy Tuan affirms his diverse talent through a series of prestigious awards: Outstanding Musician Award at the 2022 National Professional Music Festival; A Prize of the 2022 Vietnam Music Awards of the Vietnam Musicians Association with the song We Love Uncle Ho Chi Minh ; A Prize for composing the song Just Dream - the official song of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in 2022; A Prize for composing the song My Village Remembers You at the 2024 National Music Festival; Gold Medal of Music Director at the National Professional Arts Festival consecutively in 2022-2023-2024; 2 B Prizes of the Literature and Arts Award for the period 2020-2025...
In particular, on Uncle Ho's birthday, the song We Love Uncle Ho Chi Minh was honored to receive the National Award on the topic of Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style for the period 2021-2025 organized by the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee. This is an honor when the work was selected from thousands of works.

Training trips to China and Korea broadened Ta Duy Tuan's horizons. After working with the world's leading producers in Korea, he was invited to collaborate on the soundtrack for an 80-episode Korean TV series.
Duy Tuan is liberal, romantic and soaring in life but very disciplined in music. Thanks to that, most of the songs he composes are rarely revised because that is the flow of thought and emotion when writing. Duy Tuan's biggest concern is to overcome himself, always renew, innovate and diversify his style in both theme and musical style so that the audience does not get bored.
The biggest challenge he faces is "how to attract young audiences to political topics in a music market with so many genres and styles to choose from". But he is optimistic that the audience is gradually returning to topics that make them proud of their homeland.
