A primary school in Quang Ngai is in serious disrepair, threatening the lives of more than 100 students and teachers.

Risks to the lives of students and teachers

Binh Chau Primary School No. 2, located in Phu Quy village, Binh Chau commune, Binh Son district (Quang Ngai) was built in 1996, with 5 classes, 121 students and 5 classrooms. Of which, 4 classrooms have been damaged and seriously degraded.

Students study in dilapidated classrooms

According to Mr. Phan Van Cu, Principal of Binh Chau Primary School No. 2, on rainy days, the corrugated iron roof and ceiling of the building are rusted and punctured, causing water to leak into the classrooms, wetting books and students. The truss system is seriously damaged, the walls are peeling, the structure is not sturdy, and the doors are also damaged. The concrete structure of the pillars and gutters is cracked into large pieces, at risk of collapsing at any time. The school is severely damaged, and the risk of affecting the lives of students and teachers in the school is very high.

“In addition to Phu Quy school, Dinh Tan school (Binh Chau commune) also has 4 classrooms that are severely degraded, affecting the learning of 72 students. Even at the main school where 335 students study, there are 8 functional rooms that are degraded,” Mr. Cu added.

Damaged ceiling and ceiling

Teacher Bui Thi My Duyen said that on days when it rains heavily, water splashes into the classroom, so teachers and students have to move desks to one side to avoid getting wet. On windy days, many times they have to ask the school to let them off to ensure the safety of the students. “Many classrooms are very badly damaged, and with the current wind and rain, teachers and students here are very worried,” Ms. Duyen shared.

The gutter is cracked and in danger of collapsing at any time.

A parent whose child is studying at Binh Chau Primary School No. 2 said that the school's facilities are seriously degraded, and the family is very uneasy about their child going to school there. The parent said: "My child goes to school but the family is not at ease because the facilities are too bad. I hope that the authorities will pay attention to building a new school so that our children can have a better learning environment."

Repair proposal

Faced with the above situation, Binh Chau Primary School No. 2 has made a plan that when the weather is good and the impact is not high, teachers and students will continue teaching and learning; administrators and teachers will always monitor the facilities to make appropriate decisions. In case of heavy rain, students will be allowed to take time off from school and have a make-up class schedule at an appropriate time. In the long term, the school needs to be repaired and rebuilt.

Mr. Phung Ba Vuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Chau Commune, confirmed that the current state of deterioration and damage of classrooms at Binh Chau Primary School No. 2 is a concern for the locality, especially during the rainy and stormy season. Mr. Vuong requested that superiors pay attention, promptly repair and rebuild to ensure safety and meet the teaching and learning needs of teachers and students.

Binh Chau is a coastal commune, about 23 km from the administrative center of Binh Son district, about 24 km from the center of Quang Ngai city. Binh Chau has a coastline of 17 km, the natural area of ​​the whole commune is more than 1,936 hectares, distributed in 9 villages. The whole commune has 4,741 households, 17,254 people; local people live mainly on two main occupations: fishing and agriculture , a few live on small businesses and fishing logistics services.
