Private schools in Hanoi directly admit 10th graders with IELTS scores

If students achieve IELTS 5.5 or higher, they will be admitted directly to many private schools in Hanoi , some schools even offer scholarships worth tens of millions of dong.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Le Quy Don Secondary and High School will enroll 180 grade 10 students through two methods: direct admission and review of academic records.

To be admitted directly, students must meet one of the following conditions: winning an excellent student award at the district or higher level; having IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 65 points; winning medals in Math, English and Science and Technology competitions of international organizations or organized by the Department, Ministry of Education and Training ; achieving good academic performance and good conduct.

In other cases, the school will consider admission.

Le Quy Don School enrolls students in two rounds. The first round starts from tomorrow until June 20. If there are still vacancies, the school will enroll students in the second round from June 30 to July 20.

In the admission announcement at the end of December 2023, Archimedes Academy High School also said that it will directly admit students with IELTS 5.5 or higher to grade 10. If they score 6.5, they will receive a scholarship of 40 million VND per year, and if they score 7.0, they will receive a scholarship of 50 million VND. The general condition for all three IELTS scores is that the average Math score in grade 9 is not less than 8.

In addition to accepting IELTS results, Archimedes School also directly admits students who have won excellent student awards at the district level or higher. The highest scholarship is up to 500 million VND for three years, applied to candidates who have won first prize in excellent student awards at the provincial and city levels in Math, Science , Physics, Chemistry and English.

If students do not meet the direct admission requirements, they will take the entrance exam on March 10 with three subjects: Math, English and Literature. The admission score is the total score of the three subjects, in which Literature and Math have a coefficient of two.

For Nguyen Sieu School , the target for grade 10 this year is 270 students. The school does not directly recruit students with IELTS, but said that a certificate of 6.0 or higher is one of the conditions for priority admission.

Students applying for grade 10 at the school will take the Math, Literature and English proficiency test, scheduled for mid-April. After that, if there are still places available, the school will consider the grade 10 exam results in the exam organized by the Department of Education and Training.

Last year, many other schools such as Doan Thi Diem, MV Lomonosov, Luong The Vinh... also recruited directly and gave priority to candidates with international language certificates. These schools have not announced their 10th grade enrollment plans this year.

In recent years, the use of IELTS and other international language certificates in admissions has become popular.

Nghe An will directly admit candidates with an IELTS English certificate of 6.0 or higher or equivalent to public grade 10 from 2021. The Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri exempts students from taking the exam and calculating the common English score of 10 for students taking the exam for grade 10 with an IELTS score of 4.0 or equivalent.
