Funeral and burial of 10 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos

(PLVN) - On the morning of May 23, Hue city solemnly held a memorial service and burial ceremony for 10 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who fought and died in Laos during the resistance wars, which were recently exhumed and brought back to Vietnam.

In the dry season of 2024 - 2025, the Martyrs' Remains Collection and Search Team (Team 192), Hue City Military Command was assigned the task of searching for and collecting the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Sekong and Salavan provinces (Lao PDR).

During the mission in Laos, the officers and staff of Team 192 encountered many difficulties, especially the rugged terrain, with little information about graves, mainly located in remote, mountainous areas. With a high sense of responsibility and deep affection for the heroic martyrs, with the coordination and support of all levels, sectors, localities and people of Lao ethnic groups, Team 192 searched for and recovered the remains of 10 martyrs who died in Sekong and Salavan provinces and brought them back to the country.

At the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, Head of Steering Committee 515 of Hue City Nguyen Chi Tai read a eulogy in memory of the nation's outstanding sons who heroically fought and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for the noble international duty in Laos.

Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Nguyen Chi Tai said that searching for and collecting the remains of martyrs who died in Laos is a sacred and meaningful task, demonstrating the morality of "remembering the source of water when drinking water", "repaying gratitude"; a noble gesture of today's generation towards the heroic martyrs. Not only is it an important and urgent task, it is also a sentiment and responsibility to repay the merits of the martyrs who heroically sacrificed for the revolutionary cause of the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos.

In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, delegates offered incense and flowers to the souls of heroes and martyrs and observed a moment of silence to commemorate the contributions of the outstanding sons of the Vietnamese people who bravely fought and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, the happiness of the people and the noble international mission.

At the end of the ceremony, delegates moved the martyrs to their final resting place in the motherland at Hue City Cemetery.
