Live broadcast of the opera Carmen at 8:30 p.m. on August 24, 2024

(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of August 23, the City Arts Council appraised the musical Carmen, the Hai Phong Television Stage program for August 2024, produced by the City Performing Arts Center.

The opera Carmen is one of the world's most beloved opera masterpieces by the famous 19th century French composer Georges Bizet, and is among the top 20 most performed operas in the world over the past 150 years.

The story is set in Seville, Spain, around 1830. Carmen, a beautiful Gypsy woman with a fiery temperament, is free in love. One day, Carmen meets and seduces Corporal Don José, a young soldier with little experience. Their relationship causes him to deny his old love, rebel against his commander and join a smuggling gang. However, after a while, Carmen falls in love with the bullfighter Escamillo, abandoning Don José, causing him to be angry and kill Carmen.

The tragedy of love in Carmen wants to tell us that love cannot be easy and when making others suffer, Carmen had to live and sacrifice for her love.

With a duration of about 2 hours, the opera Carmen performed by Hai Phong Performing Arts Center still retains the core values of a classic musical, but has been integrated with modern creative elements, closer to the public.

The musical is performed with creative, modern and impressive highlights with the staging of the leading creative team such as: Artistic director Meritorious Artist Phan Manh Duc, Director People's Artist Nguyen Hong Phong, Music director Conductor Dong Quang Vinh, Choreographer Nguyen Minh Trang, Scriptwriter Dao To Loan, along with artists and actors of Hai Phong city art troupes and the Symphony Orchestra and Choir of the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet. In charge of the program is Ms. Dinh Thi Bich Lien, Director of the Hai Phong Performing Arts Center.

At the evaluation program, members of the City Arts Council contributed ideas for the production team to implement before broadcasting live to serve the audience at 8:30 p.m. on August 24, 2024 on Hai Phong Radio and Television channels.
