From January 1, 2025, 41 new wards in Ho Chi Minh City will come into operation after merging 80 wards.

The Resolution on the merger of commune-level units of Ho Chi Minh City in the period of 2023 - 2025 of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly takes effect from January 1, 2025. After the arrangement (merger) of commune-level administrative units, Ho Chi Minh City has 22 district-level administrative units, including 16 districts, 5 districts and 1 city; 273 commune-level administrative units, including 210 wards, 58 communes and 5 towns. Thus, Ho Chi Minh City arranges 80 wards to form 41 new wards. After the arrangement, 39 wards are reduced. Details of the merger of wards in Ho Chi Minh City are as follows:
