Nearly 100% of households in Van Long residential group live on agricultural production, of which tea is the main crop. |
Perhaps anyone who has ever set foot in Van Long residential group (TDP) cannot help but be amazed by the fresh, peaceful scenery created by the green tea fields and endless acacia hills, with the chirping of birds.
More impressive is the expanded concrete road, with many types of flowers blooming on both sides, making first-time visitors to Van Long feel like they are "lost" in an eco-resort rather than a residential area - home to more than 100 households.
Van Long is the leading commune in terms of tea growing area in Hung Son town, with about 70 hectares. For many years, tea has become a key crop in agricultural production in this locality. Of which, 20 hectares are produced according to VietGAP standards, some households are piloting organic tea production models that meet the criteria of food hygiene and safety and environmental protection.
Thanks to the application of scientific and technological advances, the quality of Van Long tea is increasingly high, helping the product easily access demanding markets, while increasing its economic value many times over compared to traditional farming methods.
Previously, tea growers in Van Long could only sell tea for around 100,000 VND/kg, but now it has increased to 150-500,000 VND/kg (depending on the type); specialty tea can be sold for nearly 1 million VND/kg. Traders come to the households to buy, so people do not have to worry about the output of the product.
In addition to tea, Van Long also has 16 hectares of rice and 150 hectares of production forest, mainly acacia trees. Taking advantage of the forest, soil and suitable climate, many households in Van Long have boldly developed models of beekeeping for honey, ornamental tree planting... creating additional stable income, contributing to diversifying livelihoods.

Previously, there was a time when the TDP had more than ten poor households. However, thanks to actively changing the crop structure, applying sustainable agricultural models and support from local policies, the number of poor households is now only 5; this year, the TDP strives to reduce the number of poor households by 2. People's lives are improving day by day, houses are spacious; the rate of well-off and rich households is increasing, accounting for about 40%.
With a prosperous economy, people in the TDP are willing to contribute labor, money and land to build welfare projects. According to statistics, on average, each household voluntarily contributed more than 10 million VND to build roads, with some households contributing up to 60-70 million VND.
The total area of land voluntarily donated by the people is more than 1 hectare. The roads are solidified, creating favorable conditions for the transportation of agricultural products and travel of the people. Since 2015, Van Long has been recognized as a Traditional Tea Village.
Mr. Hoang Van Thin said: In 16 years as the Head of the TDP, I am very proud to have contributed with the TDP cadres to lead and lead Van Long to develop more and more, the face of the countryside is increasingly prosperous and beautiful. In particular, the spirit of solidarity and mutual love is a beautiful feature in Van Long. The TDP has no social evils, the security team and the reconciliation team are almost "unemployed" because the people live in harmony, close together, and together maintain peace for the village.
With advantages in land, climate, consensus of the people and sense of responsibility of the grassroots staff, this place promises to continue to reap more success, "eliminating" all poor households in the near future.
