Exciting pack horse racing on the white plateau of Bac Ha

On June 7, at Bac Ha Stadium (Lao Cai), the final round of the 18th Bac Ha White Plateau Traditional Horse Race took place.

This year's race has the participation of male and female jockeys from communes in Bac Ha district, districts in Lao Cai province and jockeys from Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Son La, Dien Bien , Yen Bai...

Bac Ha district leaders awarded prizes to the first, second and third place winners of the 18th Bac Ha traditional horse race.

From early morning, tourists and locals from the highland villages in the neighboring area flocked to Bac Ha town to witness the flying steps and skillful rein control of the brave and talented horse riders in the pack horse race.

The central stadium was packed with more than 15,000 people watching the traditional "Sênh tiền" stick dance performance of the local Mong people, with the participation of 600 Mong girls. Then, the audience cheered loudly at the fierce and intense competitions in the final round with the fierce competition of 32 horses and talented riders of the 18th horse race on the white plateau of Bac Ha.

Participating in this "unique" horse race, in the qualifying round, there were 98 jockeys from Bac Ha, Bat Xat, Si Ma Cai districts ( Lao Cai province), Ham Yen district (Tuyen Quang province) and Son La province. At the end of the qualifying round at a distance of 1,900 meters, 32 jockeys with the shortest racing time, without any violations, continued to compete in the final round today (June 7).

Of which, the communes and towns of Bac Ha district have 12 horse jockeys; the rest are Bat Xat district with 7; Simacai district with 4; Ham Yen district (Tuyen Quang) with 6; Son La province with 3.

After a fierce competition, full of martial spirit of the Northwest mountain riders, the result was: Rider number 70 Lam Van Thien of Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province came in first, winning the 18th championship.

Horse rider Lam Van Thien of Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province won the Bac Ha horse racing tournament - 2025, with a prize of 60 million VND.

The Organizing Committee awarded the first prize worth 60 million VND to rider Lam Van Thien of Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province and the second prize worth 50 million VND to rider Trang A Ma of Bat Xat district (Lao Cai), the third prize worth 40 million VND to rider Trang A Gio of Bat Xat district (Lao Cai), the fourth prize worth 20 million VND to rider Nong Van Nghinh of Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province.
