Tuy An District People's Committee said that recently, when the upstream water level of Gioi Den Dam was low, specialized agencies and An Dan Commune authorities discovered serious erosion occurring in the northern direction of the dam shoulder with a width of 7m, length of 11m, and average depth of 2m; the volume of sand flowing downstream of the dam was about 154m3 . The upstream and downstream northern wing walls had cracks extending about 12m, water flowed through the wing walls; under the sand discharge culvert, there was a phenomenon of water flowing through the dam body; the dam body had cracks running along the dam body. Other items, such as the wing walls, sand discharge culvert, upstream and downstream yards, were all seriously eroded.
In the immediate future, Tuy An District People's Committee mobilized forces and means, using sandbags to build a dike upstream to the north, directing the flow to the south to limit the subsidence of the body and the northern wing wall of Gioi Den dam. However, this is only a temporary measure to avoid the risk of erosion, causing the collapse of Gioi Den dam.
In the long term, Tuy An District People's Committee proposed that the Department of Agriculture and Environment inspect the site and guide the locality to implement solutions to overcome the serious erosion occurring at the Gioi Den dam project. At the same time, it advised the Provincial People's Committee to promptly support funding for the locality to urgently repair the damage at this project to ensure irrigation water for the 2025 summer-autumn crop and stabilize the lives of the local people.
It is known that Gioi Den dam was built and put into use in 2003, serving irrigation for about 80 hectares of two-crop rice and providing domestic water for more than 200 households in An Dan commune.
