With a wealth of experience and a proven bond through many tournaments, the Vietnamese women's team entered the 2025 AFF Women's Cup as one of the top candidates for the championship. In fact, the journey of coach Mai Duc Chung and his team was more favorable when strong opponents such as Thailand and the Philippines were both stopped early.
However, in the semi-final match against the Australian women's team - the youngest team in the tournament, Huynh Nhu and her teammates unexpectedly revealed many gaps in their defense. This led to the home team's girls conceding 2 goals in the first half.
In the second half, the Vietnamese women's team focused on attacking to find an equalizer. Despite holding the ball a lot and trying to impose their style of play, coach Mai Duc Chung's players could not create any truly dangerous opportunities in front of the opponent's goal. It was not until the 88th minute that Bich Thuy skillfully dribbled and finished from a tight angle to reduce the score to 1-2 for the Vietnamese women's team.
However, the remaining time was not enough for coach Mai Duc Chung's students to create a surprise and once again missed out on the AFF Women's Cup championship. This was a regrettable result as the team was once considered to be the most experienced and well-balanced team in the tournament.
In the third place match, Huynh Nhu and her teammates will meet the Thai women's team again, thereby aiming to win a bronze medal to close the tournament.
