On the evening of August 6, at Lach Tray Stadium ( Hai Phong City), the Vietnam Women's Team had their opening match against the Cambodia Women's Team in Group A of the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship (2025 AFF Women's Cup).
Vietnam women's team dominates opponent
With their superior strength, coach Mai Duc Chung's team took the initiative from the start of the match. It only took the home team 8 minutes to score the opening goal after Duong Thi Van headed in a free kick from Bich Thuy outside the penalty area.
The opening goal helped the Vietnamese players play with more enthusiasm. In the 11th minute, also from a set piece situation, taking advantage of a Cambodian defender's indecisive clearance, Ngan Thi Van Su from the second line ran up to double the gap for the home team.
In the 13th and 17th minutes, Hai Yen and Nguyen Thi Van continued to shine to increase the gap to 4-0 for the Vietnamese team. Leading by 4 goals after less than 20 minutes, Coach Mai Duc Chung's students continued to maintain an overwhelming attacking position. On the other side of the field, the Cambodian women's team had almost no chance to attack and had to use all of their home field players to defend.
And won 6-0 after 90 minutes of play.
At the beginning of the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung sent Huynh Nhu, Truc Huong and Hai Linh in to replace Hai Yen, Nguyen Thi Van and Duong Thi Van. The second half scenario did not change much as the initiative still belonged to the Vietnam Women's Team. In the second half, Truc Huong and Thai Thi Thao scored to set the score at 6-0 for the Vietnam Women's Team.
With a 6-0 aggregate victory, the Vietnam Women's Team has the first 3 points at the 2025 AFF Women's Cup and is temporarily ranked 2nd in Group A due to a goal difference behind the Thai Women's Team. In the previous match, the Thai Women's Team had a resounding 7-0 victory over the Indonesian Women's Team.
