Meanwhile, in the US market, the US Dollar Index (DXY) measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) decreased by 1.99% to 100.91.

The US dollar fell against major currencies in the last trading session, hitting a 10-year low against the Swiss franc, as markets digested the latest information from US President Donald Trump on tariff policy.

The US leader stunned financial markets on April 9 by lifting steep tariffs on trading partners that had gone into effect less than 24 hours earlier. Mr Trump issued a 90-day freeze on tariffs, but maintained a general 10% tariff on most countries.

However, tariffs on Chinese imports were raised to 125% effective immediately after China retaliated against previous US tariffs with 84% tariffs. Total US tariffs on Chinese imports now stand at 145%, according to the White House.

The dollar fell 2% to 144.795 and fell 3.6% against the Swiss franc to 0.82635.

The dollar has fallen 3.46 percent against the Japanese yen and nearly 6.5 percent against the Swiss franc so far this month, on track for its biggest monthly decline against the franc since January 2015.

“Until yesterday, when the US announced a 90-day tariff suspension, practically all markets were in a pretty big imbalance and had to adjust to the tariff regime from Washington. But now, all those issues are being adjusted,” said Eugene Epstein, head of market structure for North America at Moneycorp in New Jersey.

Data from the US Labor Department released on April 10 showed that US consumer prices unexpectedly fell in March, although the improvement in inflation is unlikely to be sustained amid current tariffs.

The fall in US Treasury yields following a successful 10-year bond auction also weighed on the dollar. The benchmark 10-year US bond yield fell 2 basis points to 4.376%.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on April 10 that the EU will suspend its first countermeasures against US tariffs following Trump's suspension order.

The euro rose nearly 2.47% to $1.1221 after hitting its highest since July 2023 and posting its biggest one-day gain since 2022. The pound rose 1.13% to $1.29720.

The Australian dollar also rose 1.24% to $0.62280, while the Swedish crown gained 1.5% against the greenback to 9.839.
