USD exchange rate today: Early morning of March 26, the State Bank announced the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong to the USD increased by 16 VND, currently at 24,847 VND.
Meanwhile, in the US market, the US Dollar Index (DXY) measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) decreased by 0.05% to 104.21.
The US dollar weakened against the Japanese yen and was steady against the euro on Tuesday, weighed down by investor concerns over US President Donald Trump’s planned tariffs, after an earlier rally on optimism he would be flexible in imposing import duties.
Mr. Trump said on March 24 that not all tariffs would be applied from April 2 and that some countries could get tax reductions.
The dollar had been weakening earlier on concerns that tariffs would slow the U.S. economy and also stoke inflation. But growing optimism that tariffs won’t be as bad as feared has helped stabilize the greenback in recent weeks.
Data released on March 25 showed that US consumer confidence fell for the fourth consecutive month.
The dollar fell 0.58 percent against the Japanese yen to 149.81, after hitting a three-week high of 150.94. The move came as U.S. Treasury yields fell during the day.
Bank of Japan (BOJ) policymakers discussed the pace of interest rate hikes after deciding to raise short-term rates to a 17-year high, according to minutes of their January meeting released on March 25. Last week, the BOJ kept rates unchanged and warned of growing global economic uncertainty, saying the timing of a rate hike would largely depend on the impact of U.S. tariff policies.
The euro was little changed after a volatile session. The common currency was boosted by a survey showing German business morale rose in March, as companies looked forward to a recovery after two years of recession in Europe’s largest economy.
Meanwhile, the head of the French central bank Francois Villeroy de Galhau shared that there is still room for the European Central Bank to lower interest rates further and the deposit rate of 2.5% could be reduced to 2% by the end of this summer.
The euro fell 0.02% against the greenback to $1.0798. It had earlier hit $1.0774, its lowest since March 6. Meanwhile, the Australian dollar rose after the government introduced new tax cuts on March 25. The currency rose 0.19% against the dollar to $0.6296.
The pound also rose 0.19% against the dollar to $1.2943 as traders looked ahead to a new report today that said British finance minister Rachel Reeves is expected to cut government spending to meet fiscal rules.
Traders are now watching for any moves surrounding talks on a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
