The Vietnam U.21 women's volleyball team defeated host Indonesia U.21 in the opening match of Group A of the U.21 Women's Volleyball World Cup taking place today.

At the national team level, Indonesian women's volleyball is inferior to the Vietnamese team, but at the youth level (U.21), they have invested carefully and focused on long-term training to achieve good results when hosting the U.21 Women's Volleyball World Cup. Therefore, coach Nguyen Trong Linh and the Vietnamese U.21 team respect their opponents and field their strongest squad with the determination to find victory.

Dang Thi Hong, Nguyen Phuong Quynh, Pham Quynh Huong, Le Nhu Anh, Ngo Thi Bich Hue, and Lai Thi Khanh Huyen were the players that coach Nguyen Trong Linh sent onto the field from the start when U.21 Vietnam faced U.21 Indonesia.

With the cheers of a large home crowd, the U.21 Indonesian players started better and created a gap of 3 consecutive points. After a few moments of being overwhelmed, Dang Thi Hong and her teammates came back strongly with a streak of 6 consecutive points.

The strikers of U.21 Vietnam Dang Thi Hong, Bich Hue, Quynh Huong played better and better. Besides, U.21 Vietnam's blocking ability was also good, blocking many attacks of the opponent. Thanks to that, U.21 Vietnam won convincingly 25/15 in game 1.

The confidence of the young Vietnamese players continued to be shown in the second game when they played "tit for tat" with their opponents before breaking away to win 25/16. This was the game in which Dang Thi Hong maintained her high form and Le Nhu Anh had impressive direct serves to score points. Meanwhile, the home team U.21 Indonesia failed to create any breakthroughs, making many mistakes.

With no way back, the U.21 Indonesia players played with great effort in game 3 and continuously led against U.21 Vietnam. In a difficult situation, Dang Thi Hong showed her bravery with high jumps and floor shots to score points, helping U.21 Vietnam turn the situation around, winning 25/18, thereby closing the final victory 3-0 against host U.21 Indonesia.

In the remaining two matches of Group A taking place on the same day, the U.21 Argentina team won 3-0 against the U.21 Canada team, the U.21 Serbia team also affirmed their strength with a 3-0 victory against the U.21 Puerto Rico team. Thus, the 3 teams U.21 Vietnam, U.21 Serbia and U.21 Argentina have 3 points each in the leading group while U.21 Indonesia, U.21 Canada, U.21 Puerto Rico have no points. At 2:00 p.m. tomorrow (August 8), U.21 Vietnam will face U.21 Serbia.

The 2025 U.21 Volleyball World Cup has 24 participating teams, including very strong teams such as U.21 China, U.21 Italy, U.21 Brazil, U.21 USA, U.21 Türkiye, U.21 Japan... The teams are divided into 4 groups (6 teams each), playing a round robin to select the 4 teams with the highest results of the 4 groups (16 teams in total) to enter the knockout round. The U.21 Vietnam women's team is in group A with host Indonesia, Argentina, Serbia, Puerto Rico and Canada.
