Vietnam U16 women's team lost to Thailand in the semi-finals of the 2025 Southeast Asian tournament

(Dan Tri) - Losing to Thailand's U16 women's team with a score of 1-3 in the semi-final match on the afternoon of August 27 at Manahan Stadium (Indonesia), Vietnam's U16 women's team will compete for third place in the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship on August 29.

In the semi-final match against Thailand U16 women, head coach Okiyama Masahiko continued to use the 4-2-3-1 tactical formation. In addition to 8/11 positions in the starting lineup in the match against Myanmar U16 women being kept the same, three players were adjusted in the starting lineup including defender Nguyen Duong Phuong Nghi (2) and two midfielders Diep Xuan Trang (18), Do Thi Ha Vi (19).

As predicted by the Vietnamese coaching staff, the Thai U16 women's players quickly put pressure on goalkeeper Cam My's goal. In the 6th minute, the opponent organized an attack down the sideline, unexpectedly sent the ball in to finish, goalkeeper Cam My blocked the ball, continued to be added into the net, opening the score 1-0 for the Thai U16 women's team.

After conceding an early goal, the players in red adjusted their formation to organize an attack. In the 16th minute, in a chaotic situation in front of goalkeeper Pimlapat's goal (1), Aunchidtha (17) unexpectedly put the ball into the net, bringing a goal to the U16 women's team of Vietnam.

In the 24th minute, Monthida (16) was brought onto the field. Head coach Thidarat's decision to substitute proved effective as the player who had just entered the field coordinated well before scoring the goal to raise the score to 2-1 for the Thai U16 women's team in the 43rd minute.

In the last minutes of the first half, the U16 Vietnamese women's players played without concentration, allowing Charlotte (14) to have a chance to successfully score, widening the score gap to 3-1.

At the beginning of the second half, the U16 women's team of Vietnam made adjustments on the left wing when Truong Thi Thao Nguyen (8), Ha Yen Nhi (5), and Ngo Hai Yen replaced Le Thi Hong Thai (17), Phan Thi Thu Phuong (7) and Nguyen Thi Linh Chi (9).

With the added and reinforced force, the U16 women's team of Vietnam tried to organize attacks, raising the formation to disperse the opponent. The red shirt team also had a few coordinated attacks but their finishing ability was not really good enough to make it difficult for goalkeeper Pimlapat (1).

In the 80th minute, Trinh Yen Nhi (15) was brought on to replace Diep Xuan Trang (18) to strengthen the defense when the game continued to favor the Thai U16 women's players. However, the Vietnamese U16 women's team could not turn the situation around after their efforts, accepting defeat with a final score of 1-3.

With this result, the Vietnam U16 women's team will compete for third place in the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship, which will take place at 3:30 p.m. on August 29. The opponent of coach Okiyama Masahiko and his team will be determined after the semi-final match between the host U16 women's team Indonesia and U16 women's team Australia.
