Coach Indra Sjafri leads U22 Indonesia to attend the 2025 SEA Games. |
According to Bola , coach Indra Sjafri wants to call Marselino Ferdinan, Adrian Wibowo and Tim Geypens to the Indonesian U22 team at the 2025 SEA Games. These are all 3 names currently playing for foreign clubs, and have the right not to attend the 2025 SEA Games because the tournament is not part of the FIFA system.
However, the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) has great faith in U22 Indonesia and wants to successfully defend the gold medal in men's football to appease public opinion after a disappointing World Cup campaign.
PSSI is likely to invite coach Indra Sjafri back to lead U22 Indonesia to the 2025 SEA Games. Mr. Sjafri can be considered one of the most famous coaches with "cool hands" for youth football in Southeast Asia.
In February, PSSI announced the dismissal of Indra Sjafri, who helped them achieve success at the youth level such as winning the U19 Southeast Asian Championship and the 32nd SEA Games. However, PSSI later invited this coach back after witnessing the disappointing performance of the Dutch team.
In the context of the national team still "starving" for achievements, Indra Sjafri is the only one who has brought glory to Indonesian football in recent years. He helped Indonesia win many titles with 2 U19 Southeast Asian championships, 1 U22 Southeast Asian championship and 1 gold medal at the 2023 SEA Games.
In men's football at the 33rd SEA Games, U22 Vietnam is in Group B with Malaysia and Laos, while Group A includes Thailand, Cambodia and East Timor; and Indonesia is in Group C with Myanmar, the Philippines and Singapore.
