Finally, coach Zlatko Dalic's team completed the task when they defeated the "phenomenon" of the tournament, the Faroe Islands (who had won against Montenegro and the Czech Republic), with a score of 3-1. In this match, although the Faroe Islands unexpectedly took the lead with a goal from Tuna in the 16th minute, Croatia proved their mettle by scoring 3 goals thanks to Gvardiol, Musa and Vlasic.
After this victory, Croatia is now 6 points ahead of the second-placed Czech Republic with only 1 round left in the tournament. Therefore, the Balkan team is sure to win the top spot in Group L.
This is Croatia's seventh World Cup appearance. Since their debut in 1998, Croatia have only missed out on the 2010 tournament. They finished third at the 2022 World Cup.

Thus, Croatia is the third team in Europe to win a ticket to the 2026 World Cup after England and France. In the coming days, the Old Continent will determine all 12 teams that will directly qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The remaining 4 spots will be determined through a series of play-off matches taking place in March next year.
As of November 15, FIFA has determined the 30 teams participating in the 2026 World Cup as the US, Canada, Mexico (host), Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, South Africa, Senegal, Ivory Coast (Africa), Japan, Iran, Australia, Jordan, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia (Asia), New Zealand (Oceania), Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay (South America), England, France, Croatia (Europe).
The 2026 World Cup will have a total of 48 participating teams, of which Asia has 8 direct slots and 1 play-in slot; Europe has 16 slots; Africa has 9 direct slots and 1 play-in slot; South America has 6 direct slots and 1 play-in slot; North, Central and South America and the Caribbean have 6 direct slots (including 3 co-host teams USA, Canada, Mexico) and 2 play-in slots; Oceania has 1 direct slot and 1 play-in slot.
