Thi Tuong lagoon (about 40km from the center of Ca Mau province) is currently located in 4 communes: Song Doc, Tran Van Thoi, Hung My and Phu My. Previously, the lagoon bordered 3 districts of Ca Mau province (old).
Thi Tuong Lagoon has a water surface area of about 700ha, more than 10km long, about 2km wide, and the narrowest part is about 800m. The lagoon is not deep but always maintains a water level of about 1m. This is considered a vestige of the sea retreat and the unfinished process of alluvial deposition in the Ca Mau peninsula.
Currently, both sides of the lagoon are mainly covered with wild trees and leaves, with few houses or exploited structures around.

According to the planning of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, Dam Thi Tuong eco-tourism area has a total area of nearly 2,000 hectares.
The goal that this province aims for is to exploit tourism products with the characteristics of the Southern river region on the basis of conserving biodiversity and ecosystems, building and restoring aquatic resources and flora and fauna in the lagoon.
Along with that, it combines improving living conditions for people, creating environmental landscapes, tourism spaces, and developing eco-tourism in a harmonious and sustainable direction.
The province also wishes to promote the historical value of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee Base in Xeo Duoc Hamlet (near Thi Tuong Lagoon) in association with tourism development.

In addition, the province also plans a boat dock at the intersection of Thi Keo canal and My Binh river. The boat dock has an area of over 1 hectare, serving the travel and sightseeing needs of tourists by water when visiting Thi Tuong lagoon.
According to the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, it is forecasted that by 2030, Thi Tuong Lagoon will welcome about 0.5 million visitors/year and by 2040 about 1.2-1.5 million visitors/year (after basic investment to complete this tourist area).
