Developing a unique agricultural value chain associated with sustainable agricultural tourism in Western Nghe An

On the morning of November 15, Nghe An University of Economics coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to organize a national scientific conference on “Developing the value chain of specific agricultural products and sustainable agricultural tourism in the communes of Western Nghe An in the construction of new rural areas”. The conference attracted the participation of scientists, managers and localities in the province.

In his opening speech, the representative of the organizing committee emphasized that the workshop is an opportunity for scientists , managers and businesses to discuss core issues related to the development of special agricultural value chains and agricultural tourism in the new period. This content is considered a key task to improve the effectiveness of building advanced new rural areas and model new rural areas in the Western Nghe An region - a place with great potential but still has many barriers in infrastructure, human resources and market linkages.

At the workshop, scientific reports focused on clarifying the unique advantages of Western Nghe An with three outstanding groups of resources including the natural ecosystem associated with Pu Mat National Park, the rich cultural identity of the Thai, Tho, Kho Mu, Mong ethnic groups and the unique agricultural product system that has affirmed its brand such as Vinh oranges, yellow flower tea, cinnamon, honey, and indigenous medicinal herbs.

Delegates agreed that integrating agricultural and tourism values ​​will open up new directions to increase product value and create sustainable livelihoods for the community.

Many presentations emphasized the need to strongly transform the production model from small-scale to cooperative economy, green economy, and experience economy. The application of digital technology is considered a key solution, especially in the stages of traceability, brand building, e-commerce sales and smart management in the new rural program.

Some studies propose widespread implementation of low-carbon livelihood models, circular agriculture and large-scale timber plantation combined with ecotourism to adapt to climate change and reduce emissions.

In addition, the workshop also mentioned the key role of the community in developing agricultural tourism. Many opinions said that it is necessary to strengthen skills training for people, improve management capacity and operate community tourism models, and at the same time preserve traditional cultural values ​​associated with festivals, indigenous knowledge, stilt house architecture and typical cuisine. This is considered a fundamental factor that creates the difference of tourism in Western Nghe An.

From multidimensional analysis, experts proposed a system of synchronous solutions such as perfecting the policy mechanism to support chain linkages, encouraging socialized investment in agriculture and tourism, building OCOP products associated with tourism experiences, developing digital tourism maps and strengthening the cooperation network between scientists, businesses and localities.

The representative of the organizing committee affirmed that the research results obtained from the workshop will continue to be synthesized to propose to the province and relevant agencies to concretize into programs and projects suitable to the conditions of each locality. The workshop is expected to create more motivation for the development of ecological agriculture, rural tourism and sustainable new rural construction in the communes of Western Nghe An in the coming time.
