“We are starting negotiations with the United States,” said Andriy Yermak, Chief of Staff of President Volodymyr Zelensky. “Security guarantees for Ukraine will be specific, long-term obligations that will ensure Ukraine’s ability to repel Russian forces in the future. These will be clearly defined formats and mechanisms of support.”
These security guarantees “will remain in force until Ukraine gains NATO membership,” he said.

The security assurance talks with the US are a follow-up to commitments made by the G7 at the NATO summit in Lithuania in early July to build security guarantees for Kiev.
At the NATO summit in Vilnius, NATO offered to support Ukraine in dealing with the protracted conflict in Ukraine but did not set a time frame for Ukraine to join NATO while the country remained mired in conflict. The West also pledged to provide long-term arms to Kiev.
On the sidelines of the conference, G7 members agreed to let each country negotiate a bilateral agreement to ensure security and help strengthen the Ukrainian army.
According to Chief of Staff of President Volodymyr Zelensky, more than 10 other countries have joined the G7 statement and Ukraine is negotiating terms to ensure the future of each country's military.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict continues, with no end in sight, and both sides have been carrying out retaliations against each other recently.
The West continues to pump weapons into Ukraine to confront Russia. Russia believes that the West's continued supply of weapons to Kiev will only increase hostilities and cause Western-backed countries to become more deeply involved in the conflict.
Russia has repeatedly accused the US and its allies of deliberately prolonging the conflict, warning the West not to provide weapons to Ukraine, stressing that this would only escalate the conflict and cause unnecessary casualties without changing the situation of the war.
