According to Tuttosport , Ranieri rejected the first offer from the FIGC to lead the national team. However, the FIGC was still determined to convince the 73-year-old coach to take this responsibility.
Ranieri is currently in talks with AS Roma about an advisory role. Faced with the FIGC's offer, the former Leicester City coach is considering taking on both positions at the same time, working at Roma and leading the national team.
FIGC president Gabriele Gravina is actively lobbying Ranieri to accept the offer. The FIGC's offer includes a short-term commitment, focused on helping the team qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
However, if Ranieri continues to refuse, coach Stefano Pioli will be the alternative. Currently, Pioli is without a new job after parting ways with Al Nassr at the end of last season. He is considering a three-year offer from Fiorentina with a salary of 3 million euros per season.

Italy have failed to qualify for the last two World Cups, and the pressure on the FIGC is now immense. President Gravina's decision to seek out Ranieri shows the need for an experienced coach to ensure their chances of qualifying for the world's biggest football festival in the US, Mexico and Canada in 2026.
In the early morning of June 10, Italy won 2-0 against Moldova in the European qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup. Before the match, Spalletti announced at a press conference on June 9 that the match against Moldova would be his last match in charge of Italy.
This victory helps Italy continue to nurture hopes of participating in the 2026 World Cup. They currently have 3 points after 2 matches, behind the leading team Norway (12 points after 4 matches) and Israel (6 points after 3 matches).
Italy will continue their World Cup qualifying campaign with matches against Estonia and Israel on September 5 and 8.
