GD&TĐ – Wearing a green military uniform and carrying out the mission of protecting the country has been the childhood dream of Luong Thi Thu, a Thai ethnic.
Luong Thi Thu got group C00 with 28 points.
In the 2024 High School Graduation Exam, Luong Thi Thu - a student of Dien Bien Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Dien Bien Province) was overwhelmed with happiness after being the top scorer in the whole school in the C00 group with 28 points. Notably, Thu's average total score in the social subjects was above 9 points (Literature 9.25, History 9.25, Geography 9.5, Civic Education 9).
Grasp the basics
Thu's family lives in He Muong commune, Dien Bien district, a particularly disadvantaged area of Dien Bien province. For many years, the girl has received rice and school fees from the government. She always tells herself to study hard to escape poverty.
Luong Thi Thu said that all of her knowledge comes from regular classes and materials provided by teachers. Her parents do not have stable jobs and their finances are unstable, so she cannot take extra classes like her peers.
Thu shared: “My father went to work far away from home when I was young, and my mother only stayed home to farm to make ends meet. Therefore, the three of us always encouraged each other to study hard to help ease the family’s hardships and allow my father to return to work near our family.”
Showing her talent for Literature early, Thu decided to choose block C00 (Literature, History, Geography) in high school to pursue her passion. Thu said that she does not have any special study tips, she just tries to grasp basic knowledge and self-study at home.
The letter assessed that History is the most difficult subject to learn, sometimes she will study with a mind map to remember events and dates. For Geography, the female student tries not to lose points in the Atlas section and memorizes the content in the textbook to understand the nature, then practices the questions to strengthen and consolidate the knowledge.
As for Literature, Thu did not encounter many difficulties in the review process. Thu shared: “I often read books and refer to good essays online to improve my vocabulary. For the Literature Essay section, I outline the idea on paper first and then start writing. With this method, I do not miss important points and arguments.”
Meanwhile, the female student commented that the Civic Education subject has many terms related to law, which cannot be memorized or learned by rote. During the 12th grade, Thu often stayed up until 12-1am to study and when she was tired, her friends often encouraged her to "keep it up".
Extending the list of achievements
Taking on the role of class monitor, Thu always tries to be the leader in all learning activities, setting a good example for her classmates to follow. Whenever she finds an effective learning method or good exam preparation materials, Thu always shares them with everyone.
During her three years in high school, Thu was one of the school's best students, participating in the provincial Literature exam for grade 10 and winning the Encouragement Prize, in grade 11 and 12 she advanced to third prize and took the exam at the right grade level for grade 11 and 12 and won the Third Prize, for three consecutive years she won the title of Excellent Student, won the Third Prize in the writing contest about the Dien Bien Province Boarding Ethnic High School, and had the top entrance score.
Thu added: “Since grade 6, I have participated in the Literature team and have not missed any extracurricular activities organized by the school or class. When I look back on the journey I have gone through, I silently thank myself for always trying my best and not giving up because of difficulties.”
With the current score, the female student decided to use the C03 block (Math, Literature, History) and the score of the competency assessment test organized by the Ministry of Public Security to apply to the People's Police Academy. "If I fail my first choice, I will apply to the Literature Pedagogy major at Hanoi National University of Education with my sister to fulfill my dream of spreading knowledge to children in the highlands," Thu said.
Having been with Thu for 3 years of high school, Ms. Ha Minh Phuong - a teacher at Dien Bien Province Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities shared that Thu was an excellent class leader and almost the most studious person in the class. Thu's family circumstances were extremely difficult, but she always tried her best in her studies and listened to her teachers.
Ms. Phuong admitted that she felt very secure when assigning work to Thu and she did not hesitate to spend time to reinforce the knowledge of weaker students. Every day, the female student and her homeroom teacher focused on the learning of the class members, not leaving anyone behind.
“I see Thu as very obedient, strong-willed and determined. Since Thu was 11 years old, she has lived away from her family, doing everything by herself, and has a very good sense of responsibility. Therefore, I love Thu very much, consider her as my own child, and am ready to encourage and accompany her,” Ms. Phuong shared.
The female student from Dien Bien wanted to thank the teachers who have always been there to encourage and guide her throughout the past time. “In the future, I will try to study and practice well to not disappoint the expectations of my parents and teachers,” Thu shared.
