Outlining a green energy transition roadmap for the Transport sector of Can Tho City

(CT) - Can Tho City People's Committee has just issued Plan No. 144/KH-UBND, dated June 2, 2023, implementing the Action Program on green energy conversion, reducing carbon and methane emissions of the Transport sector in Can Tho City.

The plan aims to implement the tasks in Decision No. 876/QD-TTg dated July 22, 2022 of the Prime Minister approving the Action Program on green energy conversion, carbon and methane emission reduction of the Transport sector in accordance with the practical conditions of Can Tho City. The requirement is to develop a plan, assign specific tasks, in accordance with the functions and areas assigned to relevant departments, branches and units, ensuring close coordination, no overlap; develop a reasonable roadmap, suitable to the ability to mobilize resources, ensuring feasibility, efficiency and sustainability in implementation through specific programs and action plans. The foundation of green energy conversion in the Transport sector is a strong technological transformation, based on modern institutions and governance, advanced science and technology, and high-quality human resources. The general goal is to deploy a green transport system towards the goal of net greenhouse gas emissions of "0" by 2050. The specific goal, by 2030, is to improve energy efficiency, promote the conversion to electricity and green energy in areas of the transport sector that are ready in terms of technology, institutions, and resources to implement the level of commitment in the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and the goal of reducing methane emissions of Vietnam. By 2050, develop reasonable modes of transport, strongly implement the conversion of all means, equipment, and transport infrastructure to use electricity and green energy, towards net greenhouse gas emissions of "0" by 2050.
