Van Yen evaluates the effectiveness of the Du Huong 8 pure rice variety model

The demonstration model of pure rice variety Du Huong 8 will be implemented in the spring crop of 2025, in Van Yen district with a total scale of 5 hectares, mainly concentrated in An Thinh commune with an area of 4 hectares, An Binh commune with 0.5 hectares and Yen Phu commune with 0.5 hectares.

The model is supported by Vietnam Seed Joint Stock Company with seeds, pesticides, and training in production techniques. This is a purebred rice variety researched and created by Vietnam Seed Joint Stock Company.

According to the assessment of professional agencies and households participating in the model, the purebred Du Huong 8 variety has many outstanding advantages despite complicated weather conditions. The rice plants still grow healthily, have good tillering ability, sturdy stems, and are less likely to fall.

In particular, Du Huong 8 rice flowers are very large, the grains are dense and even, have good resistance to pests and diseases, significantly reduce the use of pesticides, long rice grains, clear rice without chalky belly, white rice, shiny, sticky, fragrant, rich flavor. High field purity, suitable for local soil and climate conditions, short spring crop growing period from 125 - 130 days, good intensive cultivation, estimated yield from 280 to 300 kg/sao, especially this is a heat-sensitive variety so it can be planted in both crops in a year.

The initial results of the demonstration model of purebred rice variety Du Huong 8 have opened up new prospects for farmers in Van Yen district in selecting key crop varieties, contributing to improving economic efficiency per unit area, towards a sustainable and developed agriculture. In the coming time, the district's professional agencies will continue to monitor, evaluate and plan to replicate this model in the next production seasons.
