It is estimated that the organic food market in Vietnam has reached a value of over 100 million USD/year. Currently, more and more organic agricultural products are sold in large supermarkets across the country such as: Co.opmart, Winmart, Lotte Mart or MM Mega Market...
The representative of the fresh food value chain management at Central Retail Vietnam said that although organic vegetables are 25-35% more expensive than conventional vegetables and fruits, they are the products that consumers prioritize. Many customers have to order in advance because the products are often "sold out" on the shelves.
Consumer interest in organic agricultural products has also expanded to beverages. A Vinamilk representative said that sales of both Organic and Green Farm milk lines have increased compared to previous years. According to Phuc Sinh Joint Stock Company, the company's organic coffee products are not only popular abroad but are also growing strongly in the domestic market.
According to Dr. Nguyen Duc Chinh, founder of GenXanh Farm, organic vegetable products on his 2.5-hectare farm in Hiep Thuan commune, Phuc Tho district ( Hanoi ) are produced according to the seasonal vegetable model. Accordingly, after being harvested, the products will be transported directly from the farm to consumers, and sold at some stores in Hanoi that have been linked to consumption. Because organic agricultural products cannot be produced en masse, each week GenXanh Farm only supplies the Hanoi market with about 4-5 tons of green vegetables and herbs. To date, GenXanh has developed 2 more facilities in Sa Pa (Lao Cai) and Hoa Binh.

Ms. Dang Thi Bich Huong - Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association (VOAA) said that Vietnam has great potential to promote the production and consumption of organic products, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, consumers are increasingly concerned about their health and are willing to pay for clean, safe and clearly certified products.
Ms. Huong added that with natural advantages, abundant labor resources and a gradually improving legal system, Vietnam can completely boost the production and export of organic products in the near future. However, organic products in Vietnam are facing two major challenges, one is that consumer confidence is not really strong, and the other is that the supply chain is not strong and synchronized enough to meet the increasing demands of the market.
“The dealer system plays a key role in the journey of developing the organic agricultural market in Vietnam. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on developing the dealer system” – Ms. Huong recommended.
Currently, there are 191 countries in the world developing organic agricultural products. In Vietnam, farmers have practiced traditional organic farming for a long time. However, the area of organic agricultural production in Vietnam is still very modest.
By the end of 2024, the country currently has 495,000 hectares of organic agricultural production, accounting for 4.3% of Vietnam's total agricultural production area. Although Vietnam's organic agricultural production area is small, there are still many effective production models, helping to improve Vietnamese agricultural products. Although not developing as quickly as other countries in the region, Vietnam is considered an explosive destination for green, clean, and organic products.
