In early August, the flood season has come to many fields in the upstream area of Dong Thap province. In Thuong Phuoc commune, the fields are slightly higher than in neighboring areas. The water is just above the knees. People take advantage of the situation to herd buffaloes and raise ducks, creating a simple beauty typical of the West.
Thuong Phuoc is one of the communes that welcomes the rising tide early in Dong Thap province. In low-lying areas, the flood has flooded the fields, while in high mounds, the flood has just reached the edge.
After the summer-autumn rice harvest has been over 2 weeks, the young rice seedlings have just sprouted green, farmers take the opportunity to herd buffalo and release ducks.

When the rice flowers, people let the ducks roam from one field to another, saving on feed costs. In addition, the ducks running around and eating the natural rice will lay more eggs, and the duck eggs will be tastier than in other seasons of the year.
Every morning, herds of buffalo leisurely walk across the fields grazing on young rice seedlings. In the evening, herders lead the buffalo home, creating a peaceful picture in the Mekong Delta. However, the grazing time for buffalo only lasts from 1 to 3 weeks, before the water level in the fields rises.
That is why, every year the flood season is often associated with the image of ducks running in the fields, buffalo herding season and becomes familiar in the minds of people in the West.
