In early August, the flood season has come to many fields in the upstream area of Dong Thap province. In Thuong Phuoc commune, the fields are slightly higher than in neighboring areas. The water is just knee-deep. People take advantage of the situation to herd buffalo and raise ducks, creating a simple beauty typical of the West.

Thuong Phuoc is one of the communes that welcomes the flood early in Dong Thap province. In low-lying areas, the flood has flooded the fields, while in high mounds, the flood has just reached the edge.

After the summer-autumn rice harvest has been over 2 weeks, the young rice has just sprouted green, farmers take the opportunity to herd buffalo and release ducks.

When the rice is in bloom, people let the ducks roam from one field to another, saving on feed costs. In addition, the ducks that roam the fields and eat the natural rice will lay more eggs, and the duck eggs will be tastier than at other times of the year.

Every morning, herds of buffalo leisurely walk across the fields grazing on young rice seedlings. In the evening, herders lead the buffalo home, creating a peaceful picture in the Mekong Delta. However, the buffalo grazing period only lasts 1-3 weeks, before the water level in the fields rises.

That is why every year the flood season is often associated with the image of ducks running in the fields, buffalo herding season and becomes familiar in the minds of people in the West.
