When the Mekong River water level rises from the 9th lunar month, people in Thap Muoi commune (Dong Thap) not only focus on fishing but also turn the flood season into a golden opportunity to develop experiential tourism and diversify their livelihoods through community tourism models.

Visitors here will be able to immerse themselves in typical activities of the flood season such as "bathing in the fields", visiting fishing nets, setting traps for linh fish, or rowing a boat to pick sesbania flowers, unique experiences only available in the West.

Ecotourism areas have recorded a sudden increase in the number of visitors on weekends. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hon, representative of Dong Sen Go Thap ecotourism area, said that since the beginning of the 9th lunar month, the area has welcomed thousands of visitors, with an average of 500-600 people each weekend.

This year, the floodwaters were higher than usual, causing the entrances to the tourist huts to be flooded. This inadvertently created an interesting feature: visitors had to move and enjoy the food on boats, providing a real experience of life during the flood season.

The flood season is also an opportunity for tourists to enjoy typical countryside dishes, made from freshwater fish such as linh fish, perch, loach, sac fish, long tong fish, freshwater shrimp, silver carp, he fish...

The Sesbania flower, a specialty that only blooms from August to November every year, has a slightly bitter taste at first and a sweet taste when chewed. This flower is processed into many delicious dishes such as sour soup, stir-fry, and salad. In particular, sour soup with Linh fish and Sesbania flower is a dish associated with the flood season memories of local people.

Ms. My Anh (HCMC) shared: "I watched videos on social networks but only now had the opportunity to go to the West to experience it. We had a memorable day with activities such as bathing in the fields, rowing a boat, enjoying specialties...".

Que Anh's group of friends (in pink) also prepared traditional Vietnamese dresses to take photos together, capturing memorable moments of the flood season.

The activity of bathing in the fields attracts both adults and children. Adults feel like they are returning to their childhood, while children enjoy splashing around in the river. Even if you know how to swim, visitors are still encouraged to wear life jackets to ensure safety.

The best time to bathe in the fields is from September to October of the lunar calendar, when the water level is still and begins to recede, the water is clear and about 2 meters deep.

In addition to Thap Muoi, the vast fields in Hong Ngu (formerly Dong Thap), the border areas of Tinh Bien, An Phu, Tan Chau (An Giang), or Moc Hoa, Tan Hung (formerly Long An) are also ideal places for field bathing, attracting a large number of tourists.
