In the past, the novel's "father" George RR Martin and two producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss had the idea of ​​making potential spin-off films of this universe.

Accordingly, in 2014, Martin revealed that the two producers Benioff and Weiss wanted to end the work with a trilogy of movies instead of a final season of the series, but Warner Bros Discovery strongly opposed this idea.

However, a recent change in the studio's leadership may have turned that decision around. The series, once a fixture at HBO, is now greenlit once again.

In addition, the increasing success in adapting films from television and vice versa is also considered a reason for this decision. For example, Matt Reeves' blockbuster The Batman when adapted into a long-running series on HBO has created extremely impressive achievements.
