This morning, June 7, nearly 103,000 candidates in Hanoi entered the first day of the 10th grade entrance exam for public high schools in the 2025-2026 school year with the Literature subject. This is a highly competitive exam because the enrollment quota for public schools only accounts for about 64% of the total number of registered candidates. This is also the first year that students studying the 2018 generaleducation program will take the exam.
Candidates start the test at 8am with a duration of 120 minutes. The Literature test consists of 2 parts: Reading and Writing. In the Reading section (4 points), candidates are asked to share about simple happiness. In the Writing section (6 points), with a social discussion question, candidates are asked to write an essay of about 400 words on the topic "How to always find joy in school life?" .

Grade 10 Literature exam in Hanoi in 2025. |
At the Dong Thai Secondary School (Tay Ho District) exam site, after finishing the first exam, many candidates left the exam room feeling relaxed and excited because the exam was 'easy'.
Pham Huong Ly (Ba Dinh Secondary School) shared: "Literature is my favorite subject and I put a lot of effort into it, so I did well on today's test. The questions were not too difficult and closely followed the review content. This is a good start to motivate me to conquer the next exams and win a ticket to Phan Dinh Phung High School, Ba Dinh District."
Also assessing the test as not too challenging, Tran Quang Minh (Chu Van An Secondary School) is confident that he will get 8.5 points in this subject. This year, Minh wishes to enter Chu Van An High School - one of the four specialized schools under the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.

This afternoon , candidates will continue to take the Foreign Language exam for 60 minutes. Tomorrow morning, candidates will take the Math exam for 120 minutes. On June 9, candidates registering for specialized schools will continue to take the specialized subject exam.
It is expected that between July 4 and July 6, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will simultaneously announce the exam scores and grade 10 benchmark scores. Successful candidates will confirm their enrollment on July 10 and 12.
This year's Hanoi exam has some important changes, in which the most notable new point is the way the admission score is calculated. In previous years, the admission score was calculated according to the formula: Math and Literature scores multiplied by a factor of 2, Foreign Language scores multiplied by a factor of 1.

Most candidates assessed that the test closely followed the sample test. |
According to this year's new regulations, the admission score will be calculated by the total score of three subjects, on a 10-point scale, without multiplying the coefficient. This is a technical change, but it has a great impact on the evaluation of exam results as well as student classification.
The new calculation method makes the expected average score lower than previous years, because the maximum score is only 30 instead of 50. This poses a challenge for the admission process, especially in ensuring fairness, transparency and objectivity.
