Commenting on this year's 10th grade math exam, teacher Dang Huu Tri, head of the math group at Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), said the exam was in line with the spirit of the 2018 GeneralEducation Program, assessed students' abilities, and had a structure similar to the reference exam previously announced by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
Question 1, 2 are basic and familiar math problems for students. If you review carefully and calculate carefully, you will get full marks in this part.
Question 3 (related to statistical probability - a new knowledge topic included in this year's exam) is also a question at the level of understanding that candidates will be able to solve.
Students will solve question 4 well because they have reviewed it in reference questions.
Question 5 on spatial geometry also requires moderate application. Students need to read carefully and calculate carefully to get full marks.
Question 6 is a practical type that requires students to reason to solve well.
Question 7 is about plane geometry in part a, and part b is a familiar form for students when reviewing for admission, so good students will be able to solve both parts well; average students can only solve part a. Only question 7c requires reasoning, this is a question to classify students.
Overall assessment, Mr. Tri said that the test was close and closely followed the reference questions that the students had practiced. The differentiation shown in question number 6 had a high level of application, requiring reasoning.
Compared to the 2024 10th grade entrance exam, a teacher at Nguyen Du Secondary School said that if last year's exam had 8 questions and by the 5th question, candidates felt "stressed", but this year's exam only had 7 questions and the real stress was only in one of the last 2 questions. Question 6 required thinking and differentiation, candidates just had to think slowly and not be as stressed as in 2024.
With the requirements of the 10th grade exam this year, Mr. Tri predicts that the average score will be from 6 to 7.5. If students have good thinking skills and do their work and present it carefully, they will get a 10 in math, not "scarce" like last year.
