Why does Ho Chi Minh City University of Science use 17 admission combinations?

Information released by the Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences shows that this year the school uses from 6 to 17 combinations to select majors. Specifically, there are 5 training programs using 6 combinations and 4 combinations using up to 17 combinations.

In previous years, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulated that each industry could only use a maximum of 4 admission methods, but from 2025, there will be no limit on the number of admission combinations for a industry/training program.

Master Hoang Thanh Tu, Deputy Head of the Information and Communication Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, said that from 2024 onwards, candidates will take the high school graduation exam with 3 compulsory subjects: math - literature - foreign language and an optional combination of physics - chemistry - biology or history - geography - civic education. However, from 2025, the high school graduation exam will only take place with 4 subjects including 2 compulsory subjects: math - literature and 2 optional subjects from the optional subjects studied in high school. The fact that schools use more than 4 admission methods for 1 major brings more admission opportunities for candidates.
