Japan is not a strange opponent. They are one of the strongest women's futsal teams in Asia and are always candidates for the championship. Facing Japan in the quarter-finals requires the Vietnamese women's futsal team to be well prepared in terms of tactics and spirit.
Previously, the "Golden Star Warriors" entered the quarter-finals as the top team in Group B with an undefeated record without conceding a goal against Hong Kong (China), the Philippines and defending champion Iran.
The Japanese women's futsal team won second place in Group C. The Land of the Rising Sun defeated Indonesia 5-2, overcame Bahrain 3-2 but surprisingly lost 1-3 to Thailand in the final match.
The Japanese women's futsal team has reached the final twice (2015 and 2018). However, they only won the runner-up position, losing to Iran in both competitions.
In April, during a training trip to Japan, the Vietnamese team lost 1-4 in a friendly match with this opponent.
To realize the World Cup dream, the Vietnamese women's futsal team must first overcome the "mountain" of Japan in the quarter-finals to advance to the semi-finals, where they are only one win away from a historic ticket.
Looking back at the group stage, coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his team have shown solidity in defense and the ability to calculate reasonable tactics. However, the confrontation with Japan will be a completely different test. The team from the Land of the Rising Sun possesses a fast playing style, good individual skills and extensive experience in major tournaments.
In addition to the match between Vietnam and Japan, the quarter-finals of the 2025 Asian women's futsal tournament also have other exciting matches.
The Chinese futsal team (Group A winners) will face another Southeast Asian representative, Indonesia (the third-placed team with the best record). Meanwhile, the Thai women's futsal team (Group C winners) will face Hong Kong as the third-placed team with the best record.
Meanwhile, defending champion Iran (second in Group B) will face Taiwan (China) as the second team in Group A.

The 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship also serves as a qualifier for the 2025 Women’s Futsal World Cup later this year. In addition to the host Philippines, the top three teams in the tournament have already qualified for the World Cup. That means teams must at least advance to the quarterfinals to have any hope of qualifying for the World Cup.
