Experts introduce Japanese Kimono culture
Last weekend, at Hoi An Museum of Folk Culture (62 Bach Dang, Hoi An City), a Kimono experience workshop took place.
The event is organized by KILALA Japanese Language Center - D-Standard Vietnam Company for free for tourists, residents and those who love Japanese culture.
At the workshop, Japanese experts introduced Japanese Kimono culture - not only a costume with traditional values but also the soul of Japanese culture. Through thousands of years of change and development, Kimono has always maintained its own characteristics and brought this value to the whole world .
It is very specific about the Kimono history, the typical design, every detail that is required to make a perfect kimono such as Obi (belt), Juban (undergarment used specifically with Kimono), Koshi-himo (a sash tied around the waist to secure the Kimono), Datejime (another belt underneath to help the Obi keep its shape), Tabi (special socks), Geta, Zori (traditional shoes worn with Kimono), etc.
The workshop introduces many interesting things about the history, culture, and form of Kimono costumes.
Along with that are interesting details about how to wear Kimono in general, the types of Kimono used on specific occasions with different meanings so that you can choose to wear the right Kimono for each event.
For example, for formal ceremonies (marriage, coming of age, graduation, kindergarten graduation, parties); for everyday use (going out to eat, tea parties, going to the theater, meetings),...
It is known that this is a pilot event. If successful, it is expected to be held periodically with the hope of creating another activity for tourists visiting Hoi An, the destination of Hoi An Folk Culture Museum.
In addition, guests will also be instructed by experts on how to wear Kimono properly, experience wearing Kimono, etc.
Hoi An Museum of Folk Culture is a destination that has achieved Green Tourism certification according to the Green Tourism criteria of Quang Nam province, level 3/3 Ngoc Linh Ginseng Leaf for the tourist attraction category.
Along with other museums in Hoi An, in recent times, this destination has also organized many activities connecting heritage with the community, organizing many spaces to experience traditional Vietnamese culture, Hoi An's handicrafts, and experience tours for tourists, etc.
Kimono performances at Hoi An-Japan cultural exchange events always attract locals and tourists.
In Hoi An, since 2003, the Hoi An-Japan cultural exchange event has become a "traditional" festival in the hearts of Hoi An people as well as Japanese friends who love Vietnam.
With many activities honoring and exchanging culture between Hoi An and Japan, through 18 regular events, the programs at the Hoi An - Japan cultural exchange event always focus on traditional materials and appropriate creativity, in which the activities of performing and introducing traditional Japanese Kimono costumes are always enthusiastically participated by tourists and locals.
In the context of Hoi An being a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of crafts and folk arts, the above experiential activities will contribute to expressing and promoting the image of Hoi An - a land of cultural exchange and acculturation and a "Creative Home", where artists from all over the world come to seek inspiration and creativity.
At the same time, it contributes to enhancing understanding and cultural exchange between Vietnam and Japan.
