The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the Second Class Labor Medal is a worthy recognition by the Party and State for VIMC's important contributions in the fields of maritime and logistics.
Well deserved recognition
"VIMC has overcome many difficulties to become one of the leading enterprises, owning a modern seaport system, a fleet of shipping vessels reaching out to the world, playing a pioneering role in international logistics services. VIMC not only contributes to economic development but also enhances Vietnam's position on the world trade map. Today's achievements come from the will, spirit of overcoming difficulties and the continuous creative efforts of the collective leadership, cadres, officers and crew members of VIMC", the Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged.
Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc asked businesses to continue to innovate and implement major policies of the Party and State, especially in the context of digital transformation and green transformation that are strongly impacting all industries.
The Deputy Prime Minister also noted the major challenges from international fluctuations, transportation costs, supply chain disruptions, climate change, etc. In that context, VIMC needs to promote the modernization of its fleet and seaport system, develop key deep-water ports, expand its large-tonnage fleet, focus on container transport, and at the same time promote digitalization and reduce logistics costs.
"Key projects such as deep-water ports and international transit ports need to be implemented vigorously, ensuring progress and quality. VIMC needs to perfect a modern, transparent, effective and globally competitive governance model," the Deputy Prime Minister requested.
VIMC also needs to prioritize the development of high-quality human resources, professional knowledge and modern management skills, expand the market, participate deeply in the global maritime transport chain, affirm the role of a core state-owned enterprise and aim to become the leading maritime corporation in the region.

Overcoming losses, recovering spectacularly
Accepting the Deputy Prime Minister's direction, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VIMC Le Anh Son affirmed that VIMC always considers the policies and orientations of the Party and Government as a guideline to continue to innovate, improve competitiveness and contribute to the country's development.
Previously, reporting at the anniversary, Mr. Le Anh Son, Chairman of the Board of Members of VIMC, said that Vietnam National Shipping Lines (formerly Vinalines) was established on April 29, 1995 on the basis of reorganizing a number of shipping, port exploitation and maritime service enterprises. Starting with a modest charter capital of less than VND 1,500 billion and a fleet of 49 ships with an average age of 21.5 years, a total tonnage of 400,000 DWT, at that time Vinalines did not even have a dedicated port, only 6,900m of berths.
"VIMC has gone through many stages of development, from its peak when the fleet reached 159 ships, with a total tonnage of nearly 3.5 million DWT and accounting for 45% of the total tonnage of the national fleet at that time. The global financial crisis in 2008 forced the corporation to face fierce challenges, at times it seemed to be on the brink of bankruptcy," Mr. Son admitted.
During that difficult period, thanks to the correct direction and guidance of the Government and the support from ministries and branches, VIMC gradually overcame the obstacles with confidence. The corporation has restructured comprehensively, continuing to focus on three core areas: seaports, shipping and maritime services, but more streamlined and effective.
With breakthrough solutions, VIMC has gradually recovered and developed strongly. From negative equity of VND 4,600 billion, it has increased to VND 17,000 billion. Currently, VIMC has transformed into a public enterprise with a capitalization value of over VND 100,000 billion, managing more than 16 key seaports, accounting for nearly 30% of the market share of goods through the Vietnamese seaport system, and owning a fleet of sea transport vessels with increasingly improved transport capacity.
"The Second Class Labor Medal awarded by the President is a great encouragement and motivation for all officers and employees of Vietnam National Shipping Lines. The 30-year journey is not only a journey of development, but also a process of challenges and innovation. VIMC is committed to continuing to expand its operations, improve its competitiveness and make positive contributions to the Vietnamese economy," Mr. Son emphasized.
