Overview of the official visit to Russia of General Secretary To Lam and his wife

VOV.VN - General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, will pay an official visit to Russia and attend the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War from May 8 to May 11 at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.

On May 8, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, arrived in Moscow, starting an official visit to Russia and attending the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and diplomatic officials welcomed the delegation at Vnukovo airport.

After the plane landed, an official welcoming ceremony was solemnly held at Vnukovo airport. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko invited General Secretary To Lam to inspect the honor guard. Military band played the national anthems of Vietnam and the Russian Federation.

On the afternoon of May 8, at the Russian Government Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin met. The two sides discussed measures to strengthen political trust and expand bilateral cooperation in areas such as energy, trade - investment, defense industry, transportation, high technology, healthcare, education - training, culture, tourism, local cooperation, people-to-people exchange, etc. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin affirmed that the Russian Government will coordinate with the Vietnamese Government to implement decisions adopted at the highest level.

On the evening of May 9, General Secretary To Lam attended the ceremony to announce the direct flight route Hanoi - Moscow. Currently, Vietnam Airlines operates the Hanoi - Moscow route with a frequency of 2 flights per week and is expected to increase the frequency to 3 flights per week from July 2026.

On the morning of May 10, at the State Duma headquarters, General Secretary To Lam and Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin met. The two sides emphasized the importance of the two countries' parliaments in supporting efforts to enhance economic, trade, investment, and energy cooperation, removing procedural barriers and creating favorable conditions for citizens of the two countries to live, study, and work in each other's territories.

On the morning of May 10, at the Academy of Public Administration and National Economy under the President of Russia, General Secretary To Lam delivered an important policy speech entitled "Cultivating the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia in the new era, for peace, cooperation and development". On this occasion, the Rector of the Academy awarded General Secretary To Lam the title of "Honorary Professor" and presented a copy of the thesis of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong "Activities of the Communist Party of Vietnam to strengthen relations with the masses in the current period (based on the experience of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union)", defended in 1983.

General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam always attaches importance to the good traditional friendship with the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and that the relationship between the two Parties is of great significance in the overall Vietnam-Russia relationship, and is the political basis for promoting cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

On May 11, General Secretary To Lam attended the Vietnam-Russia Business Forum. In front of nearly 150 businesses, the General Secretary emphasized the goal of quickly increasing bilateral trade turnover to 15 billion USD. At the forum, General Secretary To Lam witnessed the inauguration ceremony of the TH fresh milk processing factory in Kaluga province, which was broadcast live, and witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between businesses of the two countries.
