First consultative conference: Unanimously introduced 217 people in the Central region to run for the 16th National Assembly

On December 4, in Hanoi, the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held the first consultation conference to discuss the structure, composition, and number of people from central agencies, organizations, and units nominated to run for the 16th National Assembly.

Speaking at the conference, Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Vice Chairwoman of the National Election Council Bui Thi Minh Hoai emphasized that the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term is a major political event of the country; a broad democratic activity among the people to promote the right to mastery, select exemplary and worthy people, representing the will, aspirations and mastery of the people. The election of deputies to the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels will be held on March 15, 2026. The success of the election depends on many factors, including the extremely important role and responsibility of the Vietnam Fatherland Front system.

Overview of the first consultative conference

According to regulations, to ensure democracy and select representative candidates for National Assembly and People's Council deputies, the consultative conference will be held three times. The first consultative conference at each level will be held from December 1 to December 10, 2025; the second consultative conference will be held from February 2 to February 3, 2026. The third consultative conference will be held from February 9 to February 20, 2026.

At the conference, delegates discussed and voted unanimously on the expected total number of candidates nominated for the 16th National Assembly by central agencies, organizations and units to be 217.

The conference agreed on the proposed structure and composition as per Resolution No. 1897/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the National Assembly Standing Committee; agreed on the proposed number of people from political organizations, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations, social organizations, socio-professional organizations, the People's Armed Forces, and central state agencies to be nominated as candidates for the 16th National Assembly.

Immediately after the conference, the Presidium and the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front will complete and issue documents including the Minutes of the first consultation conference; announcement of election work after the first consultation conference; Report on the results of the first consultation to the National Election Council and relevant agencies as prescribed.

According to Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh, the Politburo and the National Assembly have decided on the election date as March 15, 2026, so the time for the second and third rounds of consultations, as well as the organization of related conferences, will coincide with the Lunar New Year. The procedures and processes for consultation and collecting voters' opinions at work and residence will be carried out according to the established regulations, so the role of the Front from the Central to local levels is very important, ensuring that the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and the election of deputies to the People's Council for the 2026-2031 term is truly a political event for the whole country and the nation, and also a great festival for all people.
