Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary praises team that reattached hand of pregnant woman with twins

On the afternoon of December 4, at Binh Duong General Hospital (Phu Loi Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), a ceremony was held to present letters of commendation from the Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang and certificates of merit from the Party Central Committee member, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc to the collectives and individuals of Binh Duong General Hospital after successfully performing a particularly complicated surgery: temporarily raising and reattaching the severed hand of a patient who was 34 weeks pregnant with twins.

Attending the ceremony were comrade Nguyen Viet Long, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health ; leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Office and the Board of Directors, officers and staff of Binh Duong General Hospital.

Leaders of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee of the City Party Committee, the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health presented a letter of commendation from the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee to doctor Vo Thai Trung.

The success that the doctor and team achieved is not only a proud professional mark but also a testament to the courage, intelligence and medical ethics of the medical team of Ho Chi Minh City.

The city believes that the achievements of the doctors and their teams will continue to spread positive energy and strongly inspire the younger generations of doctors. The Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee hopes that the medical team of Ho Chi Minh City will continue to promote good traditions, promote learning and research, improve the quality of medical examination and treatment, and constantly innovate to better meet the health care needs of the people.

At the ceremony, reporting to the delegation on the patient's treatment process, Dr. Vo Thai Trung, Deputy Head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Binh Duong General Hospital, said that in September 2025, patient Le Ngoc P. was admitted to the hospital with a crushed lower third of his forearm and a completely severed right hand due to a work accident. In order to preserve as much living tissue as possible, the surgical team applied the technique of temporarily grafting the hand onto the right leg to maintain blood flow for nearly two months - a solution that requires high microsurgery skills, close monitoring and continuous coordination between specialists, especially in the context of the patient carrying twins.

On November 28, under the professional command of the Department of Trauma and Orthopedics, doctors performed a surgery lasting more than 12 hours to separate the hand from the temporary graft site and reattach it to the original anatomical position. The team completely re-established the blood vessel, nerve and tendon systems with high sophistication, contributing to the recovery of the hand and preservation of limb function for the patient.

To promptly encourage and recognize this outstanding achievement, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also awarded certificates of merit to three groups including: Binh Duong General Hospital; Department of Trauma and Orthopedics; Department of Surgery - Anesthesia and Resuscitation and Doctor Vo Thai Trung, Deputy Head of the Department in charge of the Department of Trauma and Orthopedics.
