The Vietnam U19 women's team is in Group A with the participation of Myanmar U19 women, Laos U19 women and Timor Leste U19 women. Meanwhile, Group B is a race between 4 teams: Thailand U19 women, Indonesia U19 women, Cambodia U19 women and Malaysia U19 women. The teams will compete in a round-robin format to calculate rankings, selecting the two teams ranked first and second in each group to compete in the semi-finals.
The Southeast Asian U19 Women's Football Tournament was first held in 2014. In the playground of young female players in this region, the Vietnam U19 Women's Team has advanced to the finals 3 times in 2014, 2022 and 2023, but all finished as runners-up. In this year's tournament, with home field advantage, coach Okiyama Masahiko and his team have many advantages to aim for the highest goal.
In Group A, the home team U19 women's Vietnam had their opening match against U19 women's Myanmar at Thong Nhat Stadium. Entering the match, both teams played with great determination. Although they were rated higher than their opponents, for more than half of the first half, U19 women's Vietnam still had not created any dangerous situations towards the opponent's goal. It was not until the 35th minute, from a fixed free kick, that Thuy Linh scored the opening goal for the U19 women's Vietnam team. Due to being behind, the U19 women's Myanmar players were forced to attack higher, leaving more space behind, creating conditions for player Thanh Hieu to rise up and score the second goal for the U19 women's Vietnam team a few minutes later before entering the break.
Entering the second half, both teams had many changes in their playing style, especially the Myanmar U19 women's players, they had more possession of the ball but still could not score against the Vietnam U19 women's team. At the end of the match, the Vietnam U19 women's team won 2-0 against the Myanmar U19 women's team.
Previously, in the same match in Group A, the Timor Leste U19 women's team lost to the Laos U19 women's team with a score of 0-2. Meanwhile, the results of the first match in Group B: The reigning champion, the Thai U19 women's team, had a resounding 6-1 victory over the Indonesian U19 women's team; the Malaysian U19 women's team also defeated the Cambodian U19 women's team with a score of 4-0.
The tournament will continue to take place from June 9-18 at 4 stadiums in Ho Chi Minh City including Thong Nhat, HFF, District 8 and Dat Duc (Go Vap District).
