Malaysian referee officiates match that decides V-League relegation

On the afternoon of June 20, Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF), the Organizing Committee of V-League 2024-2025, announced the list of Malaysian referees on duty in the final round of V-League 2024-2025.

Accordingly, the two matches that are decisive for the relegation race in round 26 of the V-League 2024 - 2025 will be officiated by FIFA-level Malaysian referees.

Specifically, referee Razlan Joffri Bin Ali (born in 1985) will officiate the match between SHB Da Nang and Song Lam Nghe An at Tam Ky Stadium. Referee Muhammad Izzul Fikri Kamaruzaman (born in 1995) will officiate the match between Quy Nhon Binh Dinh and Hanoi Club.

Both referees were on duty in round 21 of this season, in the match between Hanoi FC and Nam Dinh at Hang Day Stadium. In that match, referee Izzul Fikri was the main referee, while Joffri Bin Ali was in charge of the VAR room.

In addition, referee Joffri Bin Ali also officiated two other matches in the previous rounds, including the match between Hanoi and Dong A Thanh Hoa (round 17) and the match between Song Lam Nghe An and Quang Nam (round 19).

It is not uncommon for VPF to hire foreign referees to officiate V-League matches. This also shows that the reputation and reliability of domestic referees in important matches are not highly appreciated.

Up to this point, the race to avoid direct and indirect relegation tickets to the V-League has not ended yet when Binh Dinh, Da Nang and Quang Nam have 21, 22 and 25 points respectively after 25 rounds.

However, when considering the sub-indices in direct confrontations, Quang Nam is ranked below Da Nang due to losing in away goals (first leg Quang Nam 3-2 Da Nang, second leg Da Nang 1-0 Quang Nam). The teams will have to wait anxiously until the last minutes of the match to decide their fate.

In round 26, VAR technology will be applied in 4 matches: Da Nang vs. Song Lam Nghe An, The Cong Viettel vs. Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Dinh vs. Hanoi FC, and Cong An Hanoi vs. Hai Phong. All matches will take place at the same time, 5:00 p.m. on June 22.
