On September 28, the General Department of Customs held a press conference to inform about the plan to organize the WCO Technology Conference and Exhibition in 2023.
Mr. Hoang Dinh Trung, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department - General Department of Customs, said that this is the largest annual international conference of the World Customs Organization (WCO). The theme of this year's event is "Welcoming the digital age: Applying technology, Promoting innovation and Nurturing the next generation of professional customs officers".
Taking place from October 10-12 in Hanoi , the conference and exhibition is an opportunity for Vietnam to demonstrate its determination to digitally transform and apply modern technology towards e-Government and digital Government.
According to the representative of the General Department of Customs, this event is of a global nature in the application of emerging technologies, focusing on digital transformation, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and is timely and consistent with Vietnam's priorities in "technology diplomacy ". Through this, Vietnam hopes to learn from international experience as well as gain support from global organizations.
In particular, the conference is an opportunity to introduce and promote to friends around the world the cultural traditions, history, scenic spots, and tourist attractions of Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general.
According to Mr. Trung, the event will have 2 parts including the conference and exhibition. The conference will be divided into 10 plenary sessions and 3 thematic workshops on technology strategies and applications to address global trade challenges, building an adaptive customs system (cybersecurity, disaster recovery, new technologies in cargo screening, promoting customs operations with drones and robots...).
During this event, the General Department of Customs will present and coordinate at the conference, and send representatives as speakers to present at the conference on “Implementing the ASEAN Single Window Mechanism”, coordinate and lead the discussion session on “Green Customs for a sustainable future: Innovative solutions for trade management and border management”.
In addition to the participation of experts, customs leaders from various countries, and representatives of ministries and branches, the conference has about 50 exhibition booths of technology businesses around the world.
The booths will introduce new technologies such as promoting tax collection, improving the quality of customs services, digital transformation, security solutions, anti-smuggling and trade fraud, applying artificial intelligence in modernizing and developing trade, controlling goods, preventing counterfeit goods; portable laboratory equipment, etc.
