On the afternoon of November 8,President Luong Cuong and Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith had an online meeting to discuss the situation of the two countries and Vietnam-Laos relations.

On the afternoon of November 8, at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong held an online meeting with Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith.

In a friendly atmosphere, comrade General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith congratulated Comrade Luong Cuong on being elected by the 15th National Assembly to hold the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, demonstrating the trust and appreciation of the Party, State and people of Vietnam for President Luong Cuong's contributions to the cause of national construction and defense; expressing confidence that President Luong Cuong and other senior leaders will lead Vietnam to further development, successfully achieve the set goals, and turn Vietnam into a developed industrial country with high income.

The Lao General Secretary and President highly appreciated the traditional friendship and close ties between the Lao and Vietnamese Parties, States and people; thanked Vietnam for its valuable assistance to Laos over the past time in the spirit of “biting a grain of rice in half, breaking a piece of vegetable in half”; especially, for its multi-faceted support for Laos to successfully assume the role of ASEAN Chair and Chair of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2024. The Lao General Secretary and President affirmed that he would closely coordinate with President Luong Cuong to implement the high-level agreements reached between the two countries, contributing to further promoting the special and unique close relationship between Laos and Vietnam.

President Luong Cuong thanked General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith for being the first foreign leader to send a congratulatory letter and hold an online meeting right after the President was elected to the new position; expressing the warm feelings of the General Secretary and President of Laos towards the senior leaders of Vietnam as well as the President himself; affirming that in his new position, the President will continue to cooperate closely with the General Secretary and President of Laos and other senior Lao leaders to foster the great relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

President Luong Cuong and General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith informed each other about the situation in each country and expressed their excitement at the achievements each country has made in socio-economic development. The two leaders emphasized their determination to join hands, be united, and stand shoulder to shoulder to effectively implement the resolutions of the Party Congresses of each country, especially in 2025, and coordinate to prepare well for the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The two leaders expressed their delight at the continuous development of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in recent times; agreed to continue to pay close attention to and direct relevant agencies of the two sides to focus on effectively implementing the results of the meeting between the two Politburoes and recent high-level agreements; actively prepare for the upcoming 47th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the two countries; and accelerate the removal of difficulties and obstacles of a number of key projects to develop economic cooperation between the two countries more sustainably and effectively.

The two leaders also agreed to continue promoting propaganda and education about the traditional history of the special Vietnam-Laos relationship, increase timely information sharing, and closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums.

At the end of the talks, the Lao General Secretary and President reiterated his invitation to President Luong Cuong and his wife to pay a State visit to Laos at an appropriate time. President Luong Cuong happily accepted the invitation and suggested that the two sides make arrangements through diplomatic channels.
