Following the success of trade promotion and market development efforts in 2024, the Vietnam Trade Office in India organized a booth and supported Vietnamese businesses in participating in and showcasing Vietnamese agricultural products and processed foods at the World Food India (WFI 2024) trade fair in 2024.
On September 19, 2024, the WFI 2024 trade fair opened at the Pragati Maidan Exhibition Centre in New Delhi, with the participation of over 90 countries, 26 states and union territories of India, and leaders from 18 Indian ministries and agencies. This is the third time the WFI trade fair has been organized, jointly by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries of India and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), and will take place over four days (from September 19-22, 2024).
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a speech at the opening session of WFI 2024, affirming India's diverse culinary culture and the Indian government's ongoing reforms to transform the food processing industry, creating a modern and thriving ecosystem that integrates into the global value chain. He also stated that India will enact benchmark regulations for innovation, sustainability, and safety in the global food sector. The Indian Minister of Food Processing Industries attended and delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the crucial role of the food processing industry in India's goal of becoming a developed country by 2047. He affirmed that WFI 2024 serves as a platform to support, promote, and encourage connections between India's food processing industry and other countries worldwide, elevating the industry to a global level.
With a long-standing and strong strategic partnership between Vietnam and India, Vietnam was selected as one of two "Focus Countries" at World Food India 2024. A nearly 200m² booth showcased characteristic agricultural and processed food products from over 20 Vietnamese businesses, including fresh fruit, dried fruit, frozen durian, longan, dragon fruit, cashews, coffee, tea, pepper, cinnamon, rice wine, instant noodles, and packaged pho. These products were from companies such as 365 Café Joint Stock Company, Hong Sang Fruit Company Limited, Ngoc Binh Rice Wine, Uniben Company, Richy Joint Stock Company, Wakey Coffee Company, Van Phong Tea Company Limited, and ANTO Tea Company Limited. The Vietnamese booth attracted considerable attention and positive feedback from Indian and other international companies, as well as fair attendees, especially for products like dragon fruit and Vietnamese coffee, which are currently popular in the Indian market. India is the world's most populous country, with over 1.4 billion people, and its food market is vast and offers significant potential for Vietnamese businesses to explore and do business. India ranks second globally in the food processing sector. The food processing industry in India currently contributes 13% to GDP, projected to reach US$535 billion by 2025-2026, with a growth rate of 15% by 2030. The participation of Indian agricultural and processed food businesses in this trade fair presents a very favorable opportunity to access the Indian market, expand business networks, seek international cooperation opportunities, promote and develop products, and penetrate this market more deeply.
