Vietnam and Dominica expand cultural, tourism and sports cooperation

NDO - On the afternoon of May 28, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong received Mr. Vince Henderson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Commerce and Energy of the Commonwealth of Dominica.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong affirmed that Vietnam consistently pursues an open, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy, and is ready to be a friend, a reliable partner, and an active member of the international community. In that spirit, Vietnam wishes to further deepen its friendship and cooperation with Dominica, especially in the fields of culture, sports , and tourism.

Deputy Minister Ho An Phong also expressed his hope that the agencies of the two countries will study the possibility of signing a visa exemption agreement for ordinary passport holders in the near future on the basis of effectively implementing the signed visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders.

In the field of sports, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong highly appreciated the goodwill of cooperation from Dominica. He said that Vietnamese people love sports. Although sports such as rugby or athletics are not popular in Vietnam, through cooperation and exchange, the two sides can completely develop new types of sports, contributing to enriching the sports life of the people. In the field of tourism , the Deputy Minister informed that Vietnam is expected to welcome more than 20 million international visitors this year. With an open-door policy, Vietnam wishes to coordinate with countries in creating favorable conditions for citizens of the two countries and international visitors to Vietnam.

Vietnam and Dominica expand cooperation in the fields of culture, sports and tourism.

Minister Vince Henderson highly appreciated Vietnam's growing role in the international arena and affirmed that Dominica always supports Vietnam in international forums such as UNESCO, WTO and in efforts to maintain peace and global cooperation. Despite the great geographical distance, the two countries have many similarities in values, especially the aspiration to maintain peace, stability and sustainable development for the region and the world. Dominica is waiting for the approval of the Vietnamese Government to establish an embassy in Vietnam. This is the basis for the two sides to have conditions for closer cooperation.

In the field of sports, Dominica has won a Gold Medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and is ready to share experiences, provide training support, and organize sports exchange activities with Vietnam.

Regarding tourism, he emphasized that the Caribbean islands are located close to each other, if properly connected, Dominica can become an attractive and convenient destination for Vietnamese tourists to explore the vast Caribbean region. Dominica is ready to become a gateway connecting Vietnam with the Caribbean region. Therefore, the two sides need to coordinate to promote each other, introduce the image of the country and people of Vietnam to Dominica and vice versa.

Minister Vince Henderson expressed his desire to promote exchanges and expand cooperation in the field of education, hoping that in the near future there will be Dominican students studying in Vietnam.
