Welcoming the delegation to the Myanmar side were Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, and on the Vietnamese side were Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Ly Quoc Tuan, Colonel Dao Van Duy, Defense Attaché, and all embassy staff.

The Ministry of National Defense rescue team has 80 officers and soldiers led by Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the National Committee for Incident Response, Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue, Deputy Director of the Department of Rescue and Relief.

The rescue team of the Ministry of Public Security has 26 officers and soldiers, led by Colonel Nguyen Minh Khuong, Deputy Director of the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department.

Speaking with Yangon Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein at Yangon airport, Major General Pham Van Ty expressed his deep condolences to Myanmar for the heavy damage caused by the earthquake and hoped that Myanmar would soon recover from the disaster.

The Yangon Governor thanked the Vietnamese Army for promptly sending forces to support Myanmar in overcoming the consequences of the earthquake, emphasizing that this demonstrated the good feelings between the two countries and peoples.

Immediately after arriving at the airport, the Vietnamese Army delegation continued to travel by car to the assembly point in the capital Naypyidaw, more than 450km from Yangon, to discuss and coordinate with the other side to deploy a plan to search for the victims.

To help Myanmar overcome the consequences of the earthquake, Vietnam has decided to provide emergency relief supplies at Myanmar's request, providing 300,000 USD in aid.

These are the efforts of the Party, State and people of Vietnam to support Myanmar, an ASEAN member, in overcoming and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters, demonstrating the tradition of "loving others as you love yourself", the spirit of international responsibility and humanitarian gestures of Vietnam, while affirming the prestige and capacity of the Vietnamese rescue force in participating in international activities.

On March 28, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association also sent messages of condolences to the people of Myanmar.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar today posted a notice about donations and support for Myanmar people in distress.

Rescuers are searching for survivors in Myanmar after the country's biggest earthquake in more than a century. Myanmar authorities said this afternoon that about 1,700 people were killed, 3,400 were injured and 300 were missing, warning that the number would rise.

A series of foreign rescue teams have arrived in Myanmar to assist in the recovery process. ASEAN foreign ministers held an urgent meeting today to discuss the recovery efforts following the earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand, and agreed to promote an emergency response mechanism within the bloc.
