VietABank (HoSE: VAB) has just announced its business results for the second quarter of 2025 with pre-tax profit reaching VND361 billion, up 15% over the same period. This positive result comes in the context that the bank has just officially transferred its stock listing from UPCoM to HoSE on July 22.

According to the consolidated financial report for the second quarter, VietABank's net interest income reached VND542 billion, up 6%. The foreign exchange business recorded revenue of VND9.5 billion, double the same period thanks to taking advantage of exchange rate fluctuations and promoting foreign currency transactions. In addition, the bank also recorded additional profits from dividends on some capital contributions.

In contrast, some other business segments recorded a decline. Specifically, service income reached VND24 billion (down 29%), other income reached VND34 billion (down 3%), while securities investment activities continued to lose more than VND9 billion.

Thanks to proactively cutting operating costs by 10% to nearly VND240 billion, VietABank's net profit from business operations reached VND366 billion. After setting aside nearly VND4.7 billion in credit risk provisions, the bank recorded pre-tax profit in the second quarter of VND361 billion.

In the first 6 months of the year, VietABank recorded a pre-tax profit of more than VND 714 billion, up 27% over the same period. This result mainly came from the bank's sharp reduction in credit risk provisioning costs to VND 92 billion, down 46%. Compared to the 2025 profit plan of VND 1,306 billion, VietABank has completed nearly 55% of the target after only two quarters.

As of the end of June 2025, the bank's total assets reached nearly VND134,000 billion, up 12% compared to the beginning of the year. Outstanding loans to customers reached VND87,421 billion (up 9%) and customer deposits reached VND95,784 billion (up 6%). In the credit structure, personal loans and service sectors accounted for nearly 48%, followed by the trade, production and processing sectors with a proportion of 31%.

Asset quality has also improved significantly. Total bad debt by the end of the second quarter was VND972 billion, down 11% compared to the beginning of the year. The ratio of bad debt to outstanding loans decreased from 1.37% to 1.11%. All three groups of bad debt decreased, notably group 3 debt (substandard debt) decreased by 67%, to just over VND4 billion. However, debt with the possibility of losing capital still accounts for about 50% of total bad debt, equivalent to VND476.5 billion.

Regarding stock performance, after officially listing on HoSE on July 22 with more than 539.9 million shares traded at a reference price of VND14,250/share, VAB code had its first session increasing by 7.4% to VND15,300. However, by the end of the session on July 24, the stock had adjusted to VND14,950.

In addition to positive business results, VietABank is also implementing a plan to increase its charter capital from VND5,400 billion to over VND8,160 billion in the third quarter of 2025 through issuing shares to existing shareholders at a rate of over 51%. The plan has been approved by the State Bank and the State Securities Commission. The additional mobilized capital will be used to supplement operating capital and improve financial capacity in the coming time.
