In just the last two months of 2025, Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade ( VietinBank ) announced the closure of 28 transaction offices, bringing the total number of closed transaction offices since the beginning of the year to 100.
On December 15th, VietinBank will cease operations at the following transaction offices: Ly Thai To (Branch 1, Ho Chi Minh City), Chi Lang (Lang Son Branch), Nam Cuong ( Yen Bai Branch), and Khuc Thua Du (Trang An Branch).
Previously, on December 12th, the bank ceased operations at the Ho Guom Transaction Office, part of its Hoan Kiem Branch.
In November, VietinBank also closed a number of its branches.
Not stopping at 2025, VietinBank also aims to close several more transaction offices in 2026. The list includes: Nam Da Nang (Ngu Hanh Son Branch), Thang Loi (Can Tho Branch), Tran Hung Dao (Lai Chau Branch), Ninh Son ( Ninh Thuan Branch), and Chau Thanh (Ben Tre Branch).
As of September 30th, VietinBank had 157 branches and 881 transaction offices, a decrease of 72 transaction offices compared to the beginning of the year. With the recent announcement of closing a number of transaction offices in the past two months and in early 2026, the number of transaction offices expected to close will increase to over 100.
Not only VietinBank, but also the Vietnam Foreign Trade Digital Technology Commercial Bank (VCBNeo) announced that from December 20th, VCBNeo will close a series of branches and transaction offices in the Southwestern region of Vietnam. This includes the closure of branches in Hau Giang, Dong Thap, and Rach Kien (Tay Ninh province).
The closure of these branches also means that VCBNeo is simultaneously ceasing operations at the following transaction offices: Hung Vuong (Dong Thap Branch), Can Giuoc (Rach Kien Branch).
As of January 1, 2025, VCBNeo had 92 branches/transaction offices; currently, only 66 remain.
In 2025, Saigon Commercial Bank (SCB) will also reduce its number of transaction points by 19, after having reduced more than 100 transaction points in the previous two years.
