The information was just released at the Kazakhstan - Vietnam Business Forum on May 6, with the participation of General Secretary To Lam within the framework of a State visit to Kazakhstan.
At the event, the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance granted an Overseas Investment Certificate to Aviation Holdings (a subsidiary of Vietjet) to purchase a strategic stake in Qazaq Air. This is a step in Vietjet’s international expansion plan, contributing to strengthening aviation, economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries, while opening up development opportunities for the Central Asian aviation industry.
Under the agreement, Vietjet and Qazaq Air will jointly operate Vietjet Qazaqstan, a new-generation low-cost airline model. The airline will connect Kazakhstan with Vietnam, Southeast Asia and major aviation hubs. It is expected to serve the growing demand for travel, tourism and logistics, create thousands of high-quality jobs and promote local economic development.
Also within the framework of the event, Vietjet Qazaqstan signed a framework agreement with Boeing Corporation on technical support for the Boeing 737 fleet. Boeing will provide technical software, spare parts, pilot and engineer training and aircraft maintenance, helping to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Vietjet Qazaqstan will operate at least 20 Boeing 737 aircraft, expanding its domestic and international flight network. The airline applies modern technology, digital management and advanced training systems with technical support from Vietjet.
Vietjet invests in Kazakhstan in a pioneering role, promoting multilateral cooperation, transferring technology and enhancing the capacity of the regional aviation industry. The cooperation model not only brings economic benefits but also contributes to regional connectivity and shared prosperity.
Previously, Vietjet Thailand had operated effectively and become one of the leading low-cost airlines in Thailand.
In the first quarter of this year, Vietjet recorded consolidated revenue of VND17,952 billion and pre-tax profit of VND836 billion, up 24% year-on-year. Ancillary revenue was over VND6,223 billion, accounting for over 35% of total revenue. The airline transported more than 6.87 million passengers on nearly 38,700 flights, operating 137 routes. The fleet increased to 106 aircraft, the average seat utilization rate reached 87%, and technical reliability was 99.72%.
