Specifically, about 5 minutes after takeoff, passenger TTPD (25 years old, Vietnamese nationality), sitting in seat 11B, suddenly showed signs of unusual health.
The crew immediately used the loudspeaker to call for assistance from doctors and medical staff who volunteered to be on the flight.
At the same time, flight attendants performed first aid and provided oxygen to passengers.
However, the passenger's health condition did not improve.
The captain quickly contacted Vietnam Airlines' operations center and notified the ground department at Phu Bai airport ( Hue ) to prepare emergency vehicles and personnel.
Immediately afterwards, the flight was diverted to land at Phu Bai airport to ensure passengers received timely medical assistance.
After landing, the passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment, accompanied by relatives and a representative of Vietnam Airlines.
Flight VN158 completed all necessary procedures and continued its journey to Hanoi at 9:10 a.m. the same day, about one hour later than planned.
Previously, Vietnam Airlines has flexibly changed its itinerary many times to support passengers in need of medical assistance.
Most recently, on May 5, flight VN35 from Hanoi to Frankfurt (Germany) made an emergency landing at Erzurum airport (Türkiye) to rescue a passenger.
In January 2025, flight VN1602 from Buon Ma Thuot to Hanoi also diverted to land at Da Nang airport for the same reason.
